I have had the "gummy" problem with Break Free CLP on several occasions. The latest gummy incident was on my Kahr PM9. I cleaned the pistol, and used CLP to lube the slide rails, barrel hood, and barrel on the PM9. After continuously carrying the little pistol for one month, I finally decided to clean it again.

I found that the CLP had become dark and thickened to the consistency of sorgum syrup. The Winchester PDX1 round in the chamber was just about glued into place, and it took a while to clean this mess up.

I know that I should give my EDC weapon a thourough cleaning more often than this, but I was really thankful that I did not really "need" it during this time.

This incident has now encouraged me to be in the market for another gun lube.

Anyone know where in central tn, south of nashville, where to get some of the above mentioned products?

I like the looks of the kits Otis has. How do those flexible cleaning rods work?

lizzie - you can get Breakfree CLP and Rem Oil at your local walmart.

As far as a lube goes, I have used nothing but Militec-1 for quite a while.

I know there are many other options people use, but with the results I've seen with my personal firearms, I have no desire to change what I'm using.

You have a pretty good selection of cleaning supplies and lube at Academy Sports, or at Bass Pro if you come all the way up here. Steve's guns off of 412, there are a couple more gun shops in columbia too but I can't remember the names.

I use a product called Groil and I love it, works wonders on all my guns and doesn't run off stainless like most other oils. I picked it up at a gun show but I think I can find the website if anyone wants it.

I'm using the EWL from Slip2000. EWL and EWG. Like everyone else I have a can of RemOil as well!

I'm about 4 years into a 30 year study of the use of Mobil 1 0W50 as a general purpose gun lubricant. So far, so good. :D

I think I'll make it on 1 quart or less. That's pretty cheap for good oil. RemOil must be about $50-$60 per quart and it claims to be 100% petroleum distillate and nothing more, i.e. mineral oil. Mobil 1 is much more than that.

:)

There is actually a product called Groil

CCWSUPPLY.BIZ - Groil Gun Lube

Grease+oil=Groil.... The guy that came up with that had to have been a genius.

That looks like the Lucas Gun oil. Same bottle and color.

I like it!! Great idea; I'll file it away.

Kroil, from Kano Labs in Nashville. It is thin but it wont gum up. Ive used it for years. Its actually a stuck bolt type remedy but I always assumed that "Break Free" meant the same thing. Thanks, Jack

I use Shooter's Choice FP-10 Lubricant Elite. I noticed that BassPro carries FP-10 at their Nashville location.

Some lubricants are great at rust protection however are not good as a lubrication and vice versa. I believe FP-10 provides the best of both.

I use Breakfree exclusively on shotguns, rifles and handguns. I have never had a "gum up" problem. I was introduced to CLP in the Corps and I am quite happy with it.
