WARNING: Rant follows:

What the heck is the matter with people lately? Don't business people follow ANY kind of etiquette anymore?

Over the last couple months I've filled out, emailed or otherwise sent HUNDREDS of applications and/or resumes. Know how many I've heard ANYTHING back from? Less than a half dozen, and those were automatic email responses. I'm not even talking about interviews. Just an acknowledgment. When I was hiring, I always sent out a quick email or note for solicited resumes.

And the ones that leave you hanging on the rare instance they DO get back to you are even worse! I've had a guy jerking my chain via email for 3 days just to set up an interview for a crappy 9.00 an hour job. After my last reply to him, he has stopped returning my calls/emails.

I write well, I speak courteously, I am respectful and bend over backwards to accommodate others' schedules, so I can reasonably assume I'm not putting anyone off, SO...WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT???

Grr...

Hi Arko,

I agree with you, but would say those in the positions may be overwhelmed. When I worked as a recruiter, I did have a standard template I could use to acknowledge a resume or response to an ad, because I do think a person looking for work deserves their efforts be noticed.

Please hang tough - things will get better (and that is not meant to be a lame platitude). I really do think things are slowly (and in spite of our federal gov't attempts to bankrupt the next 5 generations) turning around.

I have offered before, but if you want a neutral review of your resume, shoot me a PM and I will give you my work email.

Best luck,

Barry

Hey Barry,

Thanks for offer. I just might do that next week!

I'll drop you a PM

Ok,

Just to ADD to the above rant, here's another WTF?

I drove 40 miles today to interview for a job barely above min. wage. The guy seemed ok, and related that between noon yesterday and 6pm he had gotten 45 applications. I get it. Buyers market for employers, AND a pile of work to pick through.

BUT this guy promised to have a decision by the end of the day and call back the folks he interviewed.

Business day ended a few hours ago. No call. WTF.

Doesn't ANYONE do what they say they'l do anymore?

Heads up for anyone looking for work on craigslist:

If an employment ad has you reply to a gmail address, check it out carefully. You'll probably be sent a link to a "HR site" or "job board" to complete the application.

There IS no application. It's an info collection site for SPAMMers and scammers.

This appears to be all over the country.

.

Whenever I see a gmail address now I open another tab and google it.

For instance, this ad is in the nooga CL now:

Loading, unloading and driving a box truck. Inspecting materials. Receiving and recording COD payments. Restocking all returns in the warehouse. Unloading and stocking products from vendors.

Must have clean criminal background and be able to pass drug screen. Must be able to carry items weighing up to 75lbs 25 to 30 percent of the time. Must have high school diploma or Ged. $10.75-$13.00 Hourly

Contact Frank.Richards72@gmail.com to apply.

  • Location: Chattanooga
  • Compensation: $10.75-$13.00 Hourly
  • Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
  • Please, no phone calls about this job!
  • Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests

If you google the email, it shows the same ad placed in multiple cities.

Heads up!

Jp

So I have a question for you guys that are out of work, and looking for jobs:

Have you applied for jobs and positions that 1 year ago would have been "beneath you" or are you holding out for jobs and pay that you feel you deserve?

If you have a MBA, but cant find a VP job, do you wait it out with your pride? or do you take a job working at the local Radio Shack for 9 bucks an hour?

Another question:

Any interested in working in the gun industry?

Before you get too excited, beware of what you are getting yourself into:

Long hours

Hard work

Low pay

Dealing with customers that:

-Can find it cheaper somewhere else

know more than you

-Think their Marlin 30-30 with a crap Weaver scope is worth a new Colt 6920 straight up

-Every ex-Marine that walks in the door telling you stories of when he was a Scout Sniper on a Presidential detail

-Old timers that get pissed because its going to cost 125 bucks to reblue their old single shot that's worth no more than about 12 bucks

-People that think that the price on the tag REALLY means Price - 10%, out the door and includes a box of ammo and a free holster.

-People that want to do nothing but bitch and moan about how the country is going to hell, and what they are going to do with the revolution comes.

-People that think the country has already gone to hell, and what they are going to do when the zombies come.

-And finally, the worst one of all: Dealing with ME!

Still interested?

Here is what we are looking for:

While we dont expect you to be a walking firearms encyclopedia, you need to have a better than average knowledge and understanding of firearms, ballistics, tactics, and State and Federal laws.

You should be well spoken, and able to communicate in a professional manner.

Customer service and your ability to treat your customer with respect, win their confidence, and service them in a professional manner is a must.

Military experience is a plus

LE experience is a plus

NRA Membership is a must (if you are not currently a NRA member, we will pay your first year of membership at time of hire)

Basic armorer or gunsmith experience is a plus

NRA Firearm Instructor certification is a plus

Tinfoil hats should be checked at the door as we have no interest in hearing your theory on the faked moon landing, who really killed JFK, or how GWB not only knew of but planned the 911 attacks.

If you think you have what we are looking for, feel free to email me your resume and bio to joe@hero-gear.com

No such thing as a job that's beneath me. I just hapen to have skills that the market pays well for at times. Unfortunately, I don't see a time in the near future the market will return to that point.

So, perhaps now would be a good time to try to transition into a another career. One I might actually enjoy.

Resume/Bio will be inbound tomorrow. An hour+45 commute won't kill me.

I work at the Wal-Mart in Lenoir City and they are looking for a lot of people to help with the new store remodel. The positions are temporary and I know a bunch of you guys hate Wal-Mart but it beats nothing. There also may be an opening in Sporting Goods.

Arko if you are good with a hammer and screw driver try putting a handyman ad on Craigslist in the services section.

I started picking up computer jobs and handy man stuff several years ago and that's how I eat now. I just work for me and have no employees or subs and it's great most of the time.

That way if one person fires me or doesn't need me anymore I still have 20 other cusomers or so. (I'm small time) but it's a living.

If I had a "real" job a year ago I would bet a million dollars (If I had it) that I would have been laid off months ago. Some weeks lately have been slowwwww but the next week it's all I can do to catch a breath.

With so many people laid off maybe you can pick up several small gigs and make a good go of it.

Thought about it, but didn't figure there would be much call for it. Maybe I'll reconsider.

Thanks.

I quit doing the home repairs cause it's to hard to keep the stuff for both home repairs and computers in one vehicle.

While people may not be going crazy remodeling the whole kitchen I bet there are more than a few looking to replace a faucet, fix a door, change locks or whatever.

Just an idea and it might be some extra money till you land something else.
