I have always wondered why Bill Wilson would not sell a Non Painted gun, but now they do and they are beautiful! I wish they would have started this before my CQB Elite was built, (they will only do this to a New gun) I will be getting another Wilson in the future!

JHatmaker,

Don't tell your friends or I'll say you're a slut

Plus it's your fault

You were rubbing my butt

That goes with your picture!

To stay on topic that is possibly the best blued finish I have ever seen.

Okay...so the Police Officer that stayed with me the night my husband was killed has kind of become a friend and I asked him what kind of automatic gun I should get if I am seriously thinking about buying one. He recommended the 1911. Can anybody educate me on this weapon and tell me if it is easy to conceal? I need something that is good for small hands (mine) and not too terribly bad on recoil. I am used to shooting a .38 and a .357 magnum revolver so....help me out. Does anybody have a 1911 that I could possibly try shooting at a range before I go plunk down big bucks for one? To me it is a long term investment in my safety and I want to make the right choice. Any advice? It would be pretty nice to get a 1911 that makes people go.....oh....uuuu...ahhhh....look what Nikki has! hehehe. But it needs to be something I can use to save my butt and not just puuurty.

My .45 1911 has less recoil than my .357 revolver. At least it feels that way. It may help that the 1911 fits the hand so well.

I wish you had brought that up at dinner the other night. :)

My wife said she told you about her Para PDA. It's basically a "Honey I shrunk the 1911" in 9mm with a very light revolver like trigger. Doesn't have to be carried cocked and locked and fits her small hands perfectly. She's more than willing to let you shoot it, and I can bring a couple of other 1911s in .45. 1911s are very easy to conceal because they are very slender.

If you can handle .357 magnum out of a revolver, a 1911 should be no problem for you. My suggestion to you would be to try a commander sized Bobtailed 1911, I think you would love them, carried in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 holster, there is no better way to conceal a handgun in my opinion.

To Ngoeser59 : Advice from a lady - assuming you know what a 1911 is, go to a store and ask to look at several makes & models, preferably sub-compacts & compacts because they are easier to conceal. Make sure when you have it in your hand 1.) the gun is parallel to your arm & 2.) you can reach the trigger - the trigger lays right about at the first joint of your finger. If anyone else here can help me explain this better, please do so.

If they seem like "too much to handle" start looking at other semi-automatics. It's hard to figure out what's right because it seems like there's so many makes & models out there, but it's gotta fit your hand so you can get a proper grip. Look for what they call a "single stack" they tend to be the smallest width-wise and thus fit smaller hands better. And don't be afraid to ask (the store) about a return or trade in - be honest and nice and if you get the impression they're going to try to sell you something just to make a sale, leave & go somewhere else.

Some guys are all about the 1911, all about the glock, all about a paticular make or model. But a weapon won't be worth poop to you if you don't feel comfortable with it.

This might be something you should go to the women's forum and re-post... I know there's not much discussion there but if you post I know a few of the ladies will try to distract the kids long enough to post a reply!

Nice choice, same model I have...

Nikki, If you are ever in the Franklin area I have a few 1911's you could try out, two 5" and a 3" (all in .45)

Also, if you have time on Saturday, we are having a TGO shoot at Owl Hollow, you could try out a ton of different semi-auto's/1911's etc.

Nikki, a couple of other pistols you should take a look at if you're around a gun store....

I listen to Tom Gresham's radio show "Gun Talk" and when women call in asking about getting a semi-auto, he generally recommends a S&W M&P because of the interchangeable back straps. They make it easier to fit your hand. A Walther PPS also has that feature and is a very slim pistol, as does an HK P2000sk. When my wife was shopping for her pistol, the Kahr CW-9 also fit her small hand nicely.

There's lots to choose from actually, other than just a 1911.

NikkiG, the 1911 isn't for non-dedicated personel. If you aren't going to practice constantly you will end up missing the thumb safety under pressure while moving (getting the heck out of dodge!). Not to mention they are maintenence intensive.

I love the 1911 platform; I usually have one loaded and handy (a Para P13 45 at the moment). They are by far the easiest service auto to shoot well.

That said, I go back to my standard advice - find a medium/compact 9mm plastic fantastic blaster (specifically, the Glock 19/26 or Springfield XD9/9sc). Use premium ammo and they work wtih or without constant attention.

What do you want 8 45's or 13 (compact XD, 17+ in the 4" XD) 9mm's.

Consider that at some point you might have an injured primary hand (anything from a fall at home to being shot) and have to shoot one handed weak hand. Don't buy something you can't control weak hand only without being on top of your game.
