crime suppression unit

Thers is a fella who lives up the street from me, don't know him from Adam, never met him, etc, which is why I'm posting here instead of asking mim myself.

He is/was/used to be MNPD. He had a patrol car parked in front of his house, saw him in uniform, he is/was a cop.

Now...all of a sudden, he has a black/gray Dodge Charger marked up with "Crime Suppression Unit" all over it. The door emblems, desklid, etc...all say Crime Suppression Unit, no city/state agency...nothing to mark it as a "partrol car"

If he's no longer leo, and a security guard now thats one thing. If that's a police car of the future, I'm not liking it. I don't think I'd pull over for a "crime Suppression Unit" cruiser with no goverment markings on it.

/tinfoil/ perhaps he's obamas czar of the new community police force/tinfoil/

Anyone else see any cars marked like that?

The Crime Suppression Unit is a special vice division of the Metro Police. I think they tend to focus on drugs, gangs, etc.

It's a common term used by departments all over the country.

If it is who I think it is, they are a security company. The light bars are actually purple, but look blue when they are not on.

They "seem" to work the higher crime area security gigs in the Nashville area.

But they are not and have not been local PD. The owner was at one time I believe was with Coopertown Police.

Bunch of wannabees based on what I know about them and what fellow officers have told me.

The main group of them work for the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, but are licensed armed security guards.

There is a thread on officer.com http://forums.officer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116249&page=1 about these posers, including a rebuttal rant by some chick that is a LT with them that is married to a MNPD officer. Here is her myspace page that was posted in the thread on officer.com : http://www.myspace.com/454814826

Below are these squirrels myspace page also...

I think robo has it nailed. The Myspace link looks like the logo on the car. I never see it move. I would think that metro would not want their CSU cars marked up like that. the car is close enough to a "normal" patrol car that they could very very easily pull someone over...but has no offical goverment markings.

Great...instead of a LEO letting his kid run up and down the street on a quad runner with no helment, I have a ex leo...not sure that makes it better.

I went over to the Forum/BLOG page...this almost sounds like Obama's Civilian Force minus the Black Panther element

They see me rollin'...they hatin'.

Seems like they over the top a little, but I don't get why some cops hate on private security so much. I get the wannabe Barney Fife guys that can't hack it so they act like the police, but for the actual decent guys that just do security work and try to actually help the police out I think they are every bit as vital.

I don't know this company from Adam so I'm just speaking in generalities, more speaking to some of the people's comments on that board that Robo linked to.

Careful, Punisher, someone from the KNS might think that you are saying you are better than cops and can't wait to use your handgun on a "perp." :D

Purely from the outside looking in, it seems to me that commissioned officers view private security as those who want to be commissioned but aren't, hence the term "wannabe cops" and such.

I know you know that, I'm just answering the rhetorical question posed. :poop:

I'm sure there are private security personnel who have no desire to be cops, just as there are private security personnel who used to be cops and got tired of the crap hours, retired, etc.

My grandfather was career LEO, retired from the public sector and went to work in the private sector as chief of security for a nuclear refinement plant. Better pay, better hours, better benefits and less bull****.

Yea I get that. I've met plenty of guys who just could not cut it and get on PD or even in the military so they become security guards and act like the police.

I am lucky to work with mostly ex-cops and military where I work and we all "know our part" in the circle I guess. I work with LE on a day to day basis and I guess we have earned their respect for how we conduct ourselves as a department.

It seems to be a hierarchy almost of security guards/officers where it kinda tops out at private owned/campus security guys and bottoms out with some of these contract companies.

I thoroughly enjoy what I do and am not compensated poorly for it and have had quite alot of opportunities afforded me training wise that I would not have had this early in a police career. That being said I still have a desire to be a cop. Whether that be reserves, part-time, or full-time I don't know yet. I do know where my authority starts and stops though and I don't run around acting like something I'm not either. It's the same as saying you were a combat vet when you are not, it's disrespectful to the men and women who do the job.
