Cubs weird pitching change(s)

Recommended Posts

The Cubs did a couple of interesting moves in the top of the 9th tonight. They had their only leftie reliever in and Cardinals had the bases loaded. Lou did a double switch, moving the pitcher to left field to bring in a different pitcher to face one batter. That batter struck out. Lou then moved the pitcher back from left field to the mound to pitch to the next batter, putting (I assume) a regular outfielder into left.

ESPN guys didn't seem to like that the umpire crew allowed it. Joe Morgan said that once a pitcher was pulled from the mound he shouldn't be allowed to go back.

Inning ended when new left fielder trapped the ball and umps said he caught it. Cardinals won anyway!! :D

Joe Morgan is a blowhard. He's alright most of the time but he wears on me. I didn't get to see the ninth, but I was sure hoping the Cubs would pull it off and make the Central race tighter before the break.

Haha, with Bruce going down I think the Reds overachieving is about done.

Nah.......I like Jay Bruce, but he was hitting like .210. Every at-bat was either a strikeout or a home run. The break (no pun intended) will do him good.

Meanwhile, we can get Dickerson in the lineup every day, which I predict will be a good thing.

I have seen that type of pitching switch done before.

I actually watched the first game of that double header yesterday, well it was on the TV and I was in and out of the basement as I cleaned the garage. I realized that the only names I recognized during the broadcast were a guy named Pujols for the Cardinals, Lou Pinella and Keith Moreland the Cubs color announcer. Shows how much baseball I have payed attention to since the last player strike.

and FWIW Joe Morgan was one of the best second baseman to ever play the game.

Of course playing on the best baseball team to ever take the field does not hurt his reputation.

Agreed, but as an announcer, Joe Morgan is only slightly this side of .

Tim McCarver, too. Good player. Crapola baseball broadcaster.

baseball broadcaster

After growing up listening to Joe Nuxhall and Marty Benneman, any other baseball announcers really do take a back seat and seem second tier.

Do people still sit on their porches and listen to baseball games anymore?
