What we're up against - the anti crowd

I don't think anybody is saying a number of departments around the state do go above and beyond in their training...

But I know for a fact that the majority of smaller departments here in this state do not do anything more than yearly 'target practice' for their uniformed patrol officers. They may only shoot 100-200 rounds a year from a firing line at targets...

I'll even point out that the shooting course that we do to qualify for the HCP was similar in the basic requirements for yearly qualifying for officers in a number of small departments around the state.

Metro officers only "qualify" twice a year. Probably the only range time many of them see.

Do you even KNOW what a stress shoot is? Have you ever qualified under a stress shoot?

When the **** hits the fan, I will trust a cop before I trust you. Get over it.

Yes. I'm quite familiar with a stress shoot. I'm glad you have faith in your police department. I have cop friends that I trust, but the department as a whole? I think not. I've shot next to them many times.

I think maybe it is you who needs to get over it. You don't even know me.

He's not saying you don't know cops that have trained and shoot a lot. He also is not say that all cops don't train and shoot a lot. He is simply saying he does know some cops that don't shoot often.

So thankfully you know LEOs that will be good to go with the :poop: hits the fan. Punisher is saying...him...not so much.

....and just a note. Most of the LEOs I knew didn't shoot that often either. As far a stress shoot, the did one in the 10 years that I remember.

Yup pretty much sums it up. Some people just like to jump to conclusions about folks that disagree with them I guess.

I was told by a friend of mine who is a freelance writer that Knox Sentinal will be printing a series on permited carry in leiu of the new laws passed and the debate over carry in places that serve and parks. The writes have tapped into this site and will be using comments from threads and will be fact checking much of what is being said. It seems that they have picked up on a feeling that many feel they are more qualified that most local police officers and the writer "wants to expose the FREELANCE COPS who are permited carriers" Well I can only hope we get a fair shake, I have tried to explain to him that it is no the sentiment of most people who carry and we do so for "personal" protection. He seems to believe there are many who are itching and hoping for the opportunity to use their weapon, to "stop a crime" and he is convinced they cruise the public with their weapon on ready just begging for the opportunity. I told him he is wrong but judging the comments by a few on this thread it would seem he was right. God help us!

Well, then I hope he's seen my comments that I won't lift a finger to "save" anyone unless my life (or my loved ones) is in danger. I couldn't care less about a robbery, businesses have insurance for that.

Where do you get that?

There has been discussion about OC vs CC, tatics, training and other things, but I don't recall anyone saying there were looking for an oppurtunity to use there weapon.

In fact just the opposite is true I think. I believe many here hope they never have to use their weapon, they just want to be prepared if unfotunately that day should ever come.

Oh please. If anything the comments here are in regards to the way the media portrays permit holders in comparison to police officers not vice versa. There have been several statements from police officers over the years that show not only that they support permit holders, but encourage it.

My comments merely reflect that the private citizenry assume all police officers are highly trained crack shots and it is not the case. Training with a firearm to become proficient takes skilled training, determination, and the desire to keep the training fresh. Shooting is a perishable skill, period.

I hope I never have to use my weapon, I don't want to know what it feels like to be put in that situation. I don't think many of the 230,000 plus permit holders in this state do either.

I don't know about anyone else, but on a regular basis I quite literally pray that I will never actually have to use any of my weapons.
