Installing night sights

Ok, don't laugh. I have a Glock 22 3rd gen. just bought a set of night sights for it and would like to know how to (if I am able) or should I or leave it to a proper gunsmith?

Also on the subject of Glocks this one is new (had it a couple of years but never fired), does Glock use a red rust colored grease? I'm asking since when I disassembled it today there was a rusty red greasey substance on the inside.

Sights are easy on a Glock. Most night sights will come with the front sight tool which is essentially a small hex-nut driver (sorta). The rear sights drift off to the right and reinstall to the left. You can do it with a wooden dowel and mallet if you are SUPER careful not to strike it hard enough to damage the tritium inserts. I have a Glock-specific sight tool that I use for this.

The red lube you found is a factory heavy grease. Nothing to worry about. It'll go away the first time you hose the frame and slide out with some cleaner. Just apply a good oil to it afterward and you're good to go.

Thanks, no tool, bought these used from a friend that just got them in Feb. for his duty weapon and then they changed from the 22 to the 21sf (I think) anyway all I got was the sights. Guess it's off to the the smith:rolleyes:

Smith charged me 20 bucks to pout them on. I'm happy he's happy. I'd be afraid of damaging the slide for no more than it cost.
