I find it even more ironic that our federal government, which was founded upon our Constitution, will not let us carry in our own federal buildings.

Seems to me it's not really MY federal government.

I would support McDonald's right to do that, with competitors' french fries.

Also support a gun store's right to post.

I'm told that WD Sports here in Knoxville does the same thing. I've actually never been there, just because of that reason.

Coal Creek here in Knoxville has it posted on their door that if you bring in a loaded firearm it MUST be holstered and you can not take it out unless you are on the range. Even for unloaded firearms, I believe it says they need to be in an open slide state for you to handle them when you come in.

I think that's the correct way to do it.

I had asked at WDs and at Randy's why they had that sign on the door and was told it didn't apply to HCP holders (which may be why the sign is not posted correctly). It was due to people bringing in loaded firearms to trade/sell.

Not Uselton's. I was just there tonight for my HCP class. They do have a sign which states no loaded firearms inside the store (excluding the range obviously), but specifically excludes LEO's and carry permit holders.

And before anyone beats me up for taking it there , I didn't know about the issues with them until after I had signed up for the class.

AFAIK it is somewhat standard practice at any gun shop to request any firearms being brought in for repair, to be traded or in any othere way that may be handled, to be unloaded.

But I don't personally know of any that prevent you keeping your carry weapon on you.

Some have posted signs to try and relay the above, but I've heard some were worded a bit confusingly.

I see the "no loaded gun" signs at gun stores all the time, I ignore them and if I'm ever asked to leave because I did not honor their sign then I will know where NOT to spend my money.

Before Legends closed down they posted a sign, so since I was in there all the time I asked why. Seemed like some yahoo came in there OC'ing a stainless/ivory 1911, waving it around, trying holsters & stuff. So they posted the sign in hopes of stopping the I D 10 T syndrome from killing someone. They also told me it did NOT apply to HCP holders as long as we were not playing with our guns.

I've been in gun stores twice where idiot customers could have killed someone with their loaded trade-ins. It's the same reason they don't let you load in the store.

There's enough guys behind the counters packing, that I feel plenty safe from some robber or psycho. BTW, anyone trying to rob a gun store (while open) is insane. I don't need to be loaded in there. I totally support these gun store postings.

Nobody would ever try to rob you in the parking lot, or break into your car and steal your carry gun though would they?

I'm sorry but I understand asking permit holders to leave their guns in their holsters or that it be unloaded with the slide locked back, that is a reasonable request. Requesting that I disarm in order to come in and buy something, I wouldn't do business with anybody else that did that, I'm for sure not going to do business with a gun store which does.

Specialty Arms in La Vergne has a "No Loaded Guns" sign on the door. I've never seen them enforce it, even when OC'n. I think it is more for long guns, as they don't want to pull a gun out a case and the guy who is selling it didn't unload it first.
