It wasn't Rick. There were two instructors, a white woman who appeared to be in her early to mid 30's, and an older black guy who was former FBI. Unfortunately I'm atrocious with names. I wrote them down in my notes, but those are somewhere in my Jeep at this point, which is my own little personal Bermuda Triangle :usa:

The guy handled most of the instruction, with her just interjecting occasionally. He was current on the laws, and stopped and pointed out when the cheezy state video was wrong. He also took issue with the "carrying a gun in TN is a privilege" line in the video, and pointed out that it was a 2A right, not a privilege.

I'm not sure what all was standard state curriculum, and what was him going beyond it, since it's the only time I've done the class. I got the feeling that a lot of it wasn't the bare minimum the state requires. He answered every question asked him very capably. He also had a pretty good sense of humour, which is always good.

He was very hands on with the less experienced shooters on the range. I had a feeling that a couple of them had only fired a handgun once or twice at the most, and he was able to teach them enough technique to pass.

I enjoyed the class. The only bad part, honestly, was the state video.

Cool, thanks, glad you had a good experience. I'll never forget the video's....

I hope this thread doesn't end up in the local media to support their assertion that HCP holders are undertrained.

Good point. This could be misconstrued, but I meant that most people here are not complete newbies with guns. That being the case, the test is common sense for the most part. The other parts are covered in the class, and there is nothing difficult. But a very valid point indeed.

I got a packet in the mail about the class, they ask us to bring 100 rds. However, I got an email today saying it's been pushed back a week due to lead removal at the range. :tough: Oh well, at least I can get in a practice session this weekend. What with ammo being scarce and pricy I don't get to the range nearly as often as I once did.

Went and got fingerprinted today on lunch. Was going to go yesterday, but had a friggin server go down about 5 mins before I was going to leave to head that way. Gotta love that kind of timing :tough:

So now the wait truly begins.

Your optical sensory organs are functioning within normal parameters.

I'm the senior Linux sysadmin where I work, and do some C++ and PHP coding as well. As if that's not geeky enough, I run karaoke on the weekends and didn't like the software out there for KJ's, so I just sat down and wrote some that works the way I want :D

LOL, one of my friends has the 127.0.0.1 welcome mat from thinkgeek! (Another right wing geek BTW)

I'm assuming you are amongst our ranks as well, considering the localhost reference :D
