For once I actually agree with the Pope

He is bringing this message to Obama and the capitalist world:

"Above all, the intention to do good must not be considered incompatible with the effective capacity to produce goods," Benedict said. "Financiers must rediscover the genuinely ethical foundation of their activity, so as not to abuse the sophisticated instruments which can serve to betray the interests of savers."

After the financial meltdown of last year I wonder if all wisdom is lost upon our representatives in government and the fiduciaries we entrust with our savings.

I mean, I want a new job so I can afford ammo so hopefully someone will listen!

You do realize this baboon called for a single governing unit for the whole world and is expousing socialism as the way to do it right?

Wow. He basically spouted forth the core concepts of the "Anti-Dog-Eat-Dog Rule" and the "Equalization of Opportunity Bill", only in pretty religious terms.

The Pope can respectfully get bent.

I didn't know that. I take it that he did not want the USA to be that governing unit by way of conquest like the Roman Empire. ;-)

What I liked about the quote is that he states the people entrusted with the fate of our savings (both the banks and the government) need to get back to ethical behavior. Guys like Bernie Madoff are the most obvious unethical fidicuaries of our money. Then you've got Barny Frank and the others whose actions were clearly wrongheaded. He went unchecked because both liberal and conservative want to make people homeowners. However I think the housing crisis that sparked the economy tumbling was as sure a defining argument against socialism as one could have.

The Pope says a lot of things I am not keen on - but recognizing there is good that can come from ethical stewardship of money is something I do agree with. Our culture celebrates and abhores Greed. I'd like to be rich by my own actions but not like Bernie Madoff or some polititian with his hand in the till. I am pretty certain that is what the pontiff was trying to get across.
