if they came to my door and wanted to see what I had I'd simply tell them no--but thanks for asking and now please get out of my property.

if they have to ask--then they have no reason to search--and a consent to search is tantamount to what they want.

Unless the BATFE is following up on a firearm found in a crime how did they know who had "...recently bought, and ... that are types of guns frequently recovered in Mexico."?

Nothing in that NRA-ILA article stated the the gun owners were suspected of a crime or that their firearm was involved in a crime. This begs the question of why/how the BATFE legally had access to gun purchase records.

If they need to ask first, the courts obviously decided a search warrant was not within their powers. By allowing them in you open yourself up for prosecution of unrelated issues based on what is out in the open and within the officers view. Simply say "No you may not." Have a nice day. Give them no reason to have probable cause to come back. Being a smart ass will only make them suspicious. If they had a warrant, they wouldn't have been so polite coming into your home.

The whole idea that illegal guns in Mexico are mainly come from the U.S. is :D started by the gun haters. Their so called “facts†are just not true.

<O:p</O:p

The choice of guns for drug dealers is full auto AK’s and Glocks. Why would they even attempt to mess with the U.S. restrictions and the inflated cost of an illegal transfer when they can buy these guns by the boatload from other countries at a fraction of the cost?

<O:p</O:p

If ATF agents are investigating those that buy large quantities of guns as suspects in illegal arms trafficking; so be it. If you don’t want to answer their questions, don’t do it. They will leave you alone or get a warrant; simple as that.

BACK UP FOLKS

Let's think about this.........90% of the weapons in Mexican gun crimes come from America. Sounds like Mexico should be helping us to shut down illegal border crossings.

Last I heard, it was a bit of a hassel to legally take a gun across the border. If we didn't have illegal border crossings this wouldn't be an issue and 90% of the guns used in Mexican gun crimes wouldn't be in Mexico to start with.

Let's SUPPORT this uproar and stop the crime of illegal border crossings.

I believe I heard that the correct number is "16%" of the weapons sezied in mexico came from the US. Just pulling from memory right now.. don't have time to research it.

so i'm still wondering how they know who bought what guns.....illegal checks of 4473s maybe?

I do believe that the Patriot Act includes a provision allowing searches of library records, medical records, and various business records. It seems to me like this would be an item covered under the Patriot Act (or anit-Patriotic Act as I think of it.)

Coincidentally, Obama is seeking an extension of 3 provisions of the Patriot Act including the business records provision.
