Yeah you could by buy high dollar non surplus ammo, or you could simply put some soap and water on a few patches, (or some ammoniated windex) and put them through the bore as a first step to cleaning.

And it is not a race to get home and clean these things. The surplus ammo is not going to eat a hole in the barrel or bolt face in an hour or two.

Clean it within a day or three and you will be fine. If you are going to be a week or more before cleaning simply pour some water down the barrel. Same with the bolt face. It is a Russian battle rifle for God's sake, not a prom dress.

Y'all been stirring up this Mosin kool-aid and it's pretty potent stuff. I took just a sip and wound up with this 91/30...

You are complete now, Comrade. :P

Like Mosin Mike said, you'll need to start ordering ammo. By the crate. It's all good stuff but the Czech has an intoxicating nose compounded with compelling bouquet. It just smells good!:D

If you install a Nancy-Pad then you might need even more ammo.

So, where do you order these pallet loads of ammo? I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that sniffs his guns after firing them.

I can probably find a Nancy-Pad on my own.

should I change my stock to one of the monte carlo stocks? not sure about doing this. I want to hunt with it this fall so was looking for ways to make it a little lighter.

This is what I'm talkin' 'bout... AIM Czech 7.62x54R 147grn FMJ Light Ball Czech 7.62x54R 147grn FMJ Light Ball

They have Russian and Hungarian too.

That looks like the way to go. My wife even said I better order some. Gotta take advantage of that. How long does it usually take for delivery once you order it?

This all leads to the next question. Is there a East TN July Shoot organized yet? I know some of you have already had a shootfest or two this month but surely that won't be all there is.

With your concern in mind, mrnick, I only ordered one case, 800 rounds, plenty left for the rest of you. I ordered some 6.5 Carcano and .38 special while I was at it.

Thanks for the tip Garufa.

Thanks for the tip Garufa.

You might be cussing me when you try to get the thing open! :tough:

You'll need, at a minimum: a hammer, crowbar, chisel, biggest screwdriver you can find, and possibly a torch or saw.

Or you may get luck and the top will just peel right off.

Some 1" pipe insulation from the hardware store makes a great nancy pad with some duct tape. Wrap it right and you can slip it on and off and complete that third world weapon feel.

You guys have me itching to shoot mine. I took it to a farm where some former students were shooting skeet with a 20 gauge. I took a few chipped clays and tossed them on a sloping bank above a pond, and then shot them with the Mosin. The 20 gauge was put away and they had a good time with the Mosin after that.

Where's the best place to find/buy a Mosin in the Knoxville area. I think I've seen them at Coal Creek Armory before....any place else? Thanks.

Best bet is the gun show at Chilhowee Park next weekend.

no way am I paying that kind of cash for a Mosin Nagant, I don't care how good it is portrayed as being.

150 bucks tops for a M38 or M44, about 115 for a 91/30

a 7.62x54r steel core round shot out of a 91/30 will not put a hole in a 1 inch thick steel plate at 125 arshins.
