Gone to Terry Walden's in Manchester today to shoot the Mosins...

I'll let you know how well they do.

Neat little sight adjustment tool. Much better than the mallet adjustment I have seen on the net...

yep no more tools

I already received a response

Hi Mike,Thanks for the inquiry but I no longer make these.

Regards,

Stan

Ok. Shot the Mosins til they wept cosmoline.

The M39 is excellent. Shot anything.

The 91/30 was not as precise, obviously, but enjoyable.

Friend of mine showed with a M38 and a 91/30 - the muzzle blast from the M38 was visible in broad day light. Excellent...

Want to go shooting again, soon...

If you get the steel billet and the drill bit, you can make one!

heck, all it takes is a drill press and some tapping dies. :)

The screw on the other hand...if anyone has any ideas about that, holler..

oh, if all it takes is a drill press and some tapping dies it should be a piece of cake :P

The steel billet sounds like the trouble. :P

The steel billet sounds like the trouble.

actually, Mark has everything ya need to make it, in the garage. the thing that's the pain to make would be that screw..it would require a lathe to turn a bolt down...

but hey...at least I know what to get ya for Christmas!

:D

hopefully the bayonet will pull the shots back to center.

I have read some stuff about moving the sights with a mallet and a punch. Might have to try that if the bayonet does not do the trick.

Heck them rifles are not all that really anyway. I have a Garand if I need to reach out an touch something. And we all know that rifle is like shooting a laser.

The 91/30 is fine for minute of sewer lid at 125 yards.

These are much more accurate than most give them credit for being. Try a Finn Mosin out some time, they are very accurate for the most part. I know you wont be covering most groups up with a quarter, but they can hit a target out to quite a long distance. They just require a little patients!

they're a lot like the M1 Garand. 1000 yard range...where they differ? The Garand is MUCH more accurate at 1000 yards...still, they hit like a truck and they're cheep! the rest? well that's up to you, now isn't it?

:stunned:

Mike here's an idea:

try using a regular c clamp, but take the foot pad off of the screw portion of it, if you don't want to use a drift punch and hammer..

I'm spitballing here..

its not that critical anyway. I can hit an 18X24 inch steel plate all day long at 125 yards with it. Sometimes we skip them in just for fun.

I've been reading this thread and believe I have caught the Mosin fever. Would the upcoming Chilhowee Park show be a good place to start looking? I am thinking a 91/30 would be a good place to start. I am not going to have a lot to spend. Any tips on what to look for? I don't really have much experience buying long guns. I'me not really concerned about how the thing looks, more about how it shoots.

There will be Mosins at the show. At the past few, T&T Guns has had a full crate or two of 91/30's for $119 each (or two for $109), plus tax & TICS.

Several other dealers usually have one or two laying around.

Sounds good. Is there usually decent deals on surplus ammo? I know handgun ammo is usually high at the shows.

Well, I wouldn't buy 7.62x54r in bulk at the show, just enough to get you started. As with all other ammo, the surplus there is higher than ordering online.

You might give Gander Mountain a call. Several months ago they were stocking 91/30's.

I think Gander's Mosin's were priced high.

Buy ammo for about 90 bucks a sealed tin of 440 rounds. Aim, Ammo to go, there are lots who sell it. for around that price.

Garufa gave good info. There should be something at the gun show for under 120 bucks.

Look for matching numbers on the bolt and receiver. Other numbers that match or don't match really don't matter. By match I mean matching with the original stamp marks, not electro pencil force matched.

other than that get ready to clean out some cosmoline.

so i snuck up to norris just a while ago. I was hopeful with the threat of rain and some drizzle that it would be empty and I was right. No one was there at all.

I took the 91/30 and the bayonet along with about 100 rounds total of three different kind of ammo.

Set up some targets at 125 yards then took a few shots. Everything was pretty much high and left. Put the bayonet on and it seemed to lower the shots and move them a little towards center. I then got the bright idea of trying to bend the front sight just a hair. Man that was the ticket. It pulled my shots right back to center and I could use the elevation on the rear sight to bring the shots up to center.

It did not matter what ammo I used, they all grouped about the same and had about the same point of impact.

I am happy with it now and am not going to fool with the front sight anymore.

I probably got more accomplished in 45 to 60 minutes I was there than when there are other shooters and we are up there all day long.

i don't like shooting alone for the most part but it was enjoyable today.

thread jack

sight tool?? anyone make one. I have both 91/30 and m44's I would rather use a tool so that I could gradually adjust it instead of beating on it and getting to to far one way of the other

Posted

I found bending the front pin to be easy. Kind of scary considering if it broke it might be hard to find another.

The guy who made sight tools does not make them anymore.

No thread jack here either. It is for anything Mosin Nagant.

PS: to aj, I have not forgot about your ammo pouch and stuff inside it.

I had an absolute blast shooting my Mosin with a friend who also had Mosins.

Shot for 5 full hours... Found the Finn even makes ME look good...

So go with someone who also has Mosins and things are more fun. Together we had a M39, M38, and 2 1891/30s

The M39 shot best, but the M38 had a visible muzzle blast...

At the last Knoxville Show over at the Expo Center, they were selling 91/30s for $109 with all the accessories. That was on a Sunday.
