Holster Recommendation Needed

Greetings all,

I just picked up an S&W J frame, 1 7/8 barrell. I am trying to find a tuckable IWB holster with leather extends up the hammer for comfort.

I can find it non-tuckable or tuckable w/o the leather, but not both. Any suggestions?

I have this one for my Glock 29 and like it so far and it does list the S&W J Frames as an option.

Do a seach on DM Bullard holsters on here. I think it'll pull up several pages of reading. Most members speak highly of them and I have one on order now.

I have several of David Bullard's holsters (see avatar of EDC). Excellent functionality and craftsmanship, fair price, and you can get them in a month or less.

However, I don't recommend ANY IWB holster that has single attachment at already thickest part of gun, including David's.

Is your reasoning on this particular holster that it makes it even thicker at the wide point causing more printing or is there another reason?

The reason I'm leaning towards this one is personal preference. I carried a .380 in a Bianchi 100 for several years and loved it mostly for the convenience/comfort. It was easy to drop the whole thing in my glove box, winter coat pocket, or quickly slip it in the waist band. It was by far the weapon I carried most, but I didn't care for the .380's lack of penetration or the Bianchi's non-tuckable design.

That's the reason.

Printing AND comfort.

And not just this particular holster, but ANY holster like it. I tried several different ones early on.

Some folks like single attachment in the center, but even if it's comfy, it of course MUST add thickness, whereas dual attachments on side "wings" do not. I think most of those who wear them have just never invested in a better design, which usually costs a little more.

Then again, opinions are like ... well, you know.

I bought a Dual Carry by DM Bullard and I've worn it everyday for a few months now (I carry an XD-40 subcompact).

I looked into it after seeing OhShoots avatar photo. I'll eventually get around to replacing the tuckable clips as he did. The only thing I have found to be less than ideal with that holster was the thickness of the tuckable leather clips, so I have been using it with the standard metal clips all this time.

Great holster, nice man to do business with.

I must admit that I have a TT Gunleather on order, though. I'm really enamored of leather belt loops, and wanted to try the TT design. I bought David Bullard's leather loop additions for the Dual Carry, but yeah, the way the holster is designed, the arm that holds them just makes them too thick and bulky for me. I'm still using the metal ones myself (need to change avatar photo showing the kydex clips I experimented with).

I use CompTac. They are much like a CrossBreed and I love mine. My G26 carries very very comfortably.....

No, some people have been carrying a variation of the Summer Special a looooong time. It works, it works well. We don't exactly want to spread the holster out over a wider area, belt space is limited enough and sometimes it would require moving the pistol to make the wider loops work. Not to mention Ken Null is of the opinion (likely based on a little knowledge and experience) the wide attachments allow the holster to twist/torque allowing the holster to bind at the worst possible time. This is the type of problem that may only be in certain situations (say rolling on the ground trying to access your pistol).

I really appreciate all the input and view points. I do think the 2 clip model would be better while carried, but I keep thinking back to how convenient my single clip holster was and I really like that aspect so I'm gonna stick with what I know this time.

I ordered from David and have confidence that he will do me right. I just heard about this guy a couple of days ago but I am REALLY liking everything I've heard about his operation. I've been a DeSantis fan for years, but I'd much rather go with a one man operation that does quality work. If he lives up to what you guys are telling me, he will be my first stop for holster shopping.

UPDATE:

I recieved my holster a couple of weeks ago and it's exactly what I was looking for. Very good craftsmanship and worth the wait.

I inquired to David about a holster for my Bianchi speed strip and he was very nice/ prompt with a reply. He declined as he didn't think he could make it functional and didn't want to sell something that didn't work. (Gotta appreciate a straight up dude who says no to a sale instead of selling you something that won't work.)

I'm using it everywhere I'm allowed and am quite happy with it. I especially like the way the clip connects on a pivot which allows me to adjust the angle of the holster to my preferences.

Now I just need to loose the 5lbs I put on over the summer. <sigh>
