Sounds like a smart careful guy who gave you a break.

Sounds the same to me.

Exactly. It never ceases to amaze me that some people are always looking for the dark lining to a silver cloud.

No kidding. Good God, and this is directed at the OP (yes you Looneeeetunes), he was doing his job and probably trying to be friendly cops can do that ya know?

Not all cops are gun guys, but the ones that are might like to engage in a bit of "gun shop" talk when they actually meet a good guy with a gun once in a while. He was also being "defensive" in his stance and demeanor because he was doing what he is supposed to do. Pull it together man. Damn.

I don't think the OP was really looking for a dark lining in a silver cloud.

I just took it as he has not been pulled over often, and when or if he has before he was not asked about his handgun.

Don't think he really said he tought it "odd" as much as he just wanted to know if it was a common thing.

If something happens to you for the first time.....how are you supposed to know if it is the "norm" or not if you don't ask?...

this is my point to a tee. last time i was pulled over was in 1990. i am a law abbiding type of guy who was just trying to make conversation. and yes he did find the stripper in the backseat, and i told him she was my grandmother...:tinfoil:

As others have said, it sounds like he was doing a good job with his officer safety training. Also, I think people try to read to much into what happens during a police encounter. Police are just regular people and we ask regular questions without any deep reasons.

Funny story about the guns, knives, bombs question. I have said that too many times to count, and the first time someone said "I have a gun right here," it took me by surprise. It taught me to never be complacent.

Yea you and me both. Then he starts complaining about his hip hurting when I'm getting the gun out. Like I care jackass!

i was just intrigued why he asked

Conversation.

Checking you for DUI, taking a look in your car. The gun just offered a topic. Just doing his job. It went well and you left happy.

You found a nice guy cop there! I got asked about a rifle sitting in my front seat. Asked me about if it was loaded. No I told him and he walked away and returned with a $150 ticket. Bummer. Still a nice guy in my book. Didn't have me get out, open bolt, nothing.
