ar15 bolt carrier staking

I have both a RRA entry tactical and a stag 2L ar15s. I've read a little on it , :confused:my question is how can you tell if the gas key is staked properly and what issues could arise? Do I need to have this done? I have attached a link on the subject. what do you guys think?

I can honestly say that they got that from the military...and yes, its a good idea, but not a critical item as long as you inspect your weapon during your cleaning cycle.

I have one that is not staked and have never had to tighten then I have one that is staked and it comes loose about every 500 rounds some day I will replace it.

Well, the issue is, you don't want those 2 bolts to back out of there. As long as you hit the bolt carrier a good whack and get some metal on them from the side, they won't. Thats all it is. You could use high temp lock tite instead.

You might want to add a couple reference marks on the head of your bolts on the second picture, the RRA I think it was. That way you can tell if they have turned a little. Just take a small chisel or a flathead screwdriver you don't want anymore, and mark or score them inline with the other staking marks. If they don't line up anymore, you know they are backing out. Get the picture?
