I'll be in the area this weekend with my girlfriend and her mother. I wouldn't mind taking a couple hours off to shoot my carbine if there was something open Saturday morning. Anyone else planning anything?

Only thing I know of going on is a couple or more of us going to the Norris, Tn. range. Not sure we'll be there before about 11, though.

Also, it's $15 for a one day pass, and it's about 25 miles north of Knoxville....would like to meet you, but this may not be worth the effort for ya. Also sounds like a mess trying to GET the pass Sat, as they're having 4th festivities in the little burg.

If you wind up by yourself, you can shoot at the John Sevier TWRA range in north Knoxville for $5 per 2 hours.

TWRA - John Sevier Hunter Education Center

It's the only open to public place I know to shoot rifles except for .22 and other pistol caliber ones at the indoor range at Coal Creek Armory.

I do not think Sevier is viable this weekend. I dunno if the holiday matters but the first weekend of the month they have national guard stuff going on and the range is closed.

BORF, you may be SOL unless you want to make an effort to join us in Norris or shoot lesser rifles and/or handguns indoors at Coal Creek.

Knoxville (and Chattanooga) both really DO suck as far as having many places to shoot.

The Norris event sounds like fun. I'll pass it by The Powers that Be :D and see how it flies!

Well, if you decide to do it, the deal is, you have to stop at Norris Police Dept in the center of "town" and get the one day pass, and extra money for key deposit, and then go BACK by there to turn in key.

But you won't need to mess with key if you can meet us at entrance to range or something. But we don't want ya to "cheat", as they are pretty hard on you if caught without pass and also on the one who let you in!

The main glitch is that they are having 4th festivities right there on Sat. Norris is a "village", there is school and activity fields right there by PD and they act like it will be a bear to park and get to the tiny PD itself. Surely seems one could park SOMEwhere and walk a block or two, though, but I dunno.

Anyway, I think we're going to try and hit the range about 11. PM me and we can try to fine tune it for you if you decide to go, swap cell numbers or whatever.

Like Mike, I'm gonna go up today or tomorrow and get yearly pass - I did it last year and wound up using it 6 or 7 times over the year, so the $30/year was well worth it.
