What is the big storm over? The places you are talking about are big money chains and cater to the exact kind of people everybody here says they don't want to associate with, LIBERALS, SHEEPLE!

There are plenty of clean smaller privately owned resturaunts full of Conservative, Christian folks and they serve darn good food. After I retired and had to start watching the money more, my wife and I discovered the privately owned restaurants and "meat and threes" in our area. We haven't cut back on our eating out, we eat healthier( More cooked veggies and good solid food.)

We go down to Westmoreland and eat at Cathy's Country Cupboard and out to Grecian's Steak House in Lafayette at least three times a week. We sit and talk with the Sheriff's Deputies, the minister, my buddies from the COOP (Tobacco farmers), and a bunch of other decent working class folks while we eat. There are no signs and my 642 is in its Nemesis in my right front pocket all the time.

You want to live the Liberal Yuppy life style but do it claiming Conservative rules and values. Doesn't work that way. You socialize with the Yuppies, you live by their rules. Look around and find some decent family restaurants. If you have to party every time you go out or have to always have alcohol with your food you better check on your Conservative status, it doesn't match with our values. (Yes, I am a Conservative!) Conservative doesn't just mean you think you should be allowed to have a gun, there are other things involved.

If you want to party and enter into that Liberal and yuppie area, GOD isn't going to strike you dead, but it is their turf and you have to follow their rules.

I'm not too sure of this. I was told that if a business relays to it's customers that firearms are not welcome, then firearms are off-limits on the premises.

If I walk into a store and a store manager sees (or is aware of) my "concealed" weapon, then they can verbally tell me that guns are not welcome. I'm obligated to leave immediately.

Yes, but the only potential legal weight is trespassing...

That's a pretty narrow definition of conservative you have there. Are you sure you aren't a proponent of group think as long as it is your approved version? BA-A-A-A-A!

Actually, wjh2657, its the opposite. The mom and pop type places are posting here in Memphis, NOT the chains (nor do I expect the chains to post as they dont in any other state that has restaurant carry).

ChuckTaylor, we must live close (I live on Court off Cooper). Golden India was not posted last I looked, Paulettes was not posted, Applebys was not (why anyone goes there is a mystery to me), Outback on Union was not, Sidestreet was not, Memphis Pizza Cafe was not. Plenty of places in walking distance.

Have a paradox here. 180 degrees out her in Good Ole Boy country. The Mom and Pops aren't posting. Actually I am going by the Nashville Area postings on the chains. It's their managers that are getting face time on TV screaming about guns and bars. The only chains we have up here on the ridge is MacDonalds and Hardees!

Who made it their turf?

They did, by buying the property.

CHUCKTAYLOR.

I was a Conservative and a Republican about 20 years before you were born. Sounds like you believe anybody who isn't ultra-right wing is a sheep. The majority of grass root Conservatives are not all that far to the Right and if the party doesn't start sounding a little more sane and sensible we'll have a Democrat in the White House for the next decade (which I most definitely don't want!).

There fact is that the majority of people who like to party and mix in these places are more slanted toward the Liberal side (I didn't say all of them now.) The ownership is definitely more anti-gun than pro-gun regardless of their political bent.

They own the property and you will dance to their tune, accept it, it is the law.

Wjh,

first off I would like to apologize for the tone of my previous post. When I made it I was light on sleep and a bit crabby. I am going to pass by the comment regarding your age compared to my youth since I started the combative exchange.

On to point:

Although I am very conservative in some ways, I would be considered liberal in others, I tend to trend towards Libertarian in general but even that is a poor description. I did not mean to imply that if you weren't far right you were one of the sheeple. I was referencing what appeared to me in your previous post to be a narrow view of what could be called conservative. Groupthink whether left, right or center is bad. If I were to say that far right is the only way I would be guilty of the same sheeple mentality I abhor.

As far as the GOP, in my opinion they are no better than the Dems. Somewhere in the last 40 years the GOP became a bunch of big gov't New Deal Democrats while the Democrats became just plain out socialists. Both parties want control of not just the money but our lives. They just use different wedge issues to get votes. As long as we are stuck in a two party system we are all screwed. /soap box

As far as ceding areas of town or certain types of activities being inherently more liberal, I reject that thesis. Now if the activities are things like burning flags, marching for commie causes or gay sex, well ok, I'll give ya those. :drama: Going out for a show or a few drinks, I think most folks like to do that regardless of ideology. I belive that through building relationships and the exchange of ideas that is how you change hearts and minds. I refuse to cede any area of the city I live in and love to any group and run for the burbs and hole up waiting for the "other" (whatever that other happens to be) to cme into my bubble forcing me to move even further out. I can't do any good changing Memphis from the sidelines. There will always be pushback, my role is to stand firm where I am.

Yeah we are close, I live at the corner of Madison and Rembert by the Quick Check. It is nice not having to take car everywhere, isn't it?

With you guy! I said I was a Republican (if you didn't catch it). I have been a Card Carrying Libertarian for over 20 years now. I am a free market Conservative (believe in free enterprise and as little government meddling as possible.) but I am still pretty strong on family values and small town government. During my 30 years active duty in the USMC I did a lot of partying too. The advantage there was it was mostly with other Marines, most of whom were in tune politically. After I retired I found it hard to "socialize" with civilian acquaintances because of the more worldly views they espoused.

When I entered public school teaching, I expected to find teachers to be mostly Liberal. In fact, most high school teachers are very Conservative and very protective of small business (most of their husbands are small businessmen!) They also tend to be very religious family people.

After living in cities most of my life, I found that I had to move to a small town/rural environment to find the type of friends I was really comfortable with.

Don't worry about the age reference, it is the standard knee jerk reaction from us old farts!

Something to remember, if you are wanting to make a statement, especially by open carrying, when this law goes into effect, be prepared to make a statement......to the media, to the newspaper, to the police. I hope I am wrong, but it would not surprise me, especially in the metro areas, ie, Memphis.

This is not a slam against open carry, I am 100% supportive of open carry, I don't for the most part, but I do on occasion. My preference is for people not to know. ;)

Let me know if you want to get together and do some silenced or full auto shooting - or both. I prefer Range USA.

Yes, it is nice to walk to a restaurant - I walked to Memphis Pizza Cafe tonight. Awesome calzones!

Well, looks like we are gonna have to start the Midtown Militia and bring this crime rate down. j/k

I'm really close to you guys too. Everyone thinks of midtowners as wacko liberals, but that is just not the case. My husband and I both would love to get a midtown gun-lover get-together going sometime.

Heh. Everyone thinks that because most of them are. My neighbors are super nice, but they say they don't understand while I won't walk to my mailbox without my gun on. I told them to keep living here and one day they will get it - hopefully it will be a robbed kind of get it and not a murdered kind of get it...

Well I guess that we are lucky in my clump of midtown. Four of the homeowners surrounding our house own firearms. Three different single lady neighbors who live alone call us first to check out anything suspicious because they know we carry. The husband and wife down the street want to come shooting with us sometime.

That sounds like an idea with some merit.:)

I am just now getting my wife into shooting (they still scrre her a little bit), so anything to get her more exposure is a big plus in my book.

For all of the wackos out here in our neck of the woods, I still find plenty of honest to God Southerners.

Game Time Spots Grill & Wings in Arlington is properly posted. It's one of my fav out-of-the-way places to eat, so next time I'm out there I'm going to chat with the owner about it...
