AR Optics and Bipod recommendations

Recommended Posts

I have a S&W M&P15 with a fold down rear sight. I'd like to add optics and a bipod to it. I don't have a bottom rail and was also wondering about the best method for mounting the bipod. I have a top rail for the optics and would welcome recommendations on mounting options for the optics as well. It has a fixed front sight. What do you use or recommend?

Does your gun have a ball stud on the bottom of the forgrip? If so there is a place to mount a Harris bipod.

As far as optic mounts that depends if you want to go with as far as optics go.

I do reconmend to mount optics a little high on the AR platform though.

A couple of companies make little mini rails that attach through the vent holes in standard hanguards. I think some also have studs I think.

I had picked up a Harris bipod that was supposed to fit on the front sling mount stud. I drove out the sling pin to mount the bipod but the bipod mounting mechanism didn't open wide enough to attach.

Here's what I'm working with for a bipod:

Here's what I have for the optics:

If you dont want to add a quadrail, the ole Harris #5 is the way to go.

I looked up the Harris #5 and removed my handguard to see how to install it. Looks like a simple solution but now that I have the handguard off I may have to give some consideration to the quadrail. Hmmmmm... I knew I'd get great advice here!

You get what you pay for in optics. I love my EOtech, and consider it to be worth every penny.
