Had my first slam fire today

Wow, I reload .223 for my AR and have always been worried about this. I have seen the primer indentations left by the floating pin in Winchester primers and it is a little unsettling. I have also read about the Federal primers being too soft. My question is, what primers does Federal use in their "value pack" .223? I have shot hundreds of those through my AR and never had a problem.

Federal primers and free floating firing pins are NO NO'S. I found this out with my M1 Garand a long time ago. Now I know what it is like to fire a BAR in a two or three round burst. I was at the range with my newly gotten M1 Garand with some loads I made up using Federal 210 match primers. I had three slam fires out of 20 rounds. I thought something was wrong with the rifle after the last one was a three shot burst. An old shooter and reloader was there and came up and told me what my problem was even before I told him I was using Federal primers. Use CCI, Rem, WW or Wolf mag primers and you will be OK. Glad no one got hurt.
