Which is best wireless or hard-wired home security system ?

I'm looking for a new home security system. I was told that the wireless systems have more false alarms and the batteries have to be replaced often. But if I install it myself, the wireless system would be easier to install. Anybody think one type system is much better or worse than the other ? Anybody know a good place to buy all the parts I would need ? Thanks.

Ok, the new systems are very reliable, batteries last 3 to 5 years and no more false alarm problems than hardwired. I own an alarm company and can sell you what you want.

Even with "wireless" systems there are wires that HAVE to be run, power, telephone, keypad, and siren (s). A new system coming out this year is going to tout all wireless, but it still has to have power and telephone wires. The sirens are wireless. It's slick but I have no info on price or anything for it.

I think the people saying that are in sales for wired systems.

I looked into it very carefully when we remodeled our home last summer. In the end, I decided to go with wireless everywhere I could. As noted, some components require wires, but most don't.

I've been super happy with the system. No false alarms. No battery issues. Install is much cleaner.

Where it makes the MOST difference is on windows, since they typically drill a hole right where water will eventually get it...and rot the wood.

The glass breakage components are the coolest--until you drop a plate in the kitchen.

We have a several year old wireless/wired system in a business. It does give false alarms once in a while. Nothing like getting up at early am hours to investigate a false alarm. The false alarms show as coming from the wireless part. Components have been moved and or replaced but the problem still surfaces once a month or so.

I still like wireless technology. Wiring is a PIA.

Wireless is fine. No better or worse than wired as far as reliability/falses. Wireless is much better as far as ease of installation. I have the Cellular outbound alert line too. The batteries last forever in the magnetic door sensors, much less in the glassbreaks. Still last for years though.

This is a big issue, if an alarm company drills a hole in your window or frame it can (and most of the time does) void your warranty. Been there done that. You want windows done, wireless contacts with VHB tape is the only way to go.

Your system needs to be checked. unless the wireless is around 15 years old then it should not be giving problems, the problem may in fact be your receiver placement.
