Private Sale Form

I'm going to feel stupid when someone point me to it, but for the life of me I can't find a link to that suggested form for classified sales between individuals. Thanks much for any help.

I've purchased two guns from individuals, both of whom participate on the board and seem like stand-up fellows. Looking over the form, it looks like it provides significantly more protection for the seller than the buyer.

What I would want to know as a buyer is where it was purchased from, when it was purchased, and then have some statement that it was lawfully obtained.

Why would you do this? There is no legal requirement. I think if you inspected ID at the time of sale that would be due diligence with no comebacks.

Just do a search and you will find intense feelings about the "form". Just sayin. :)

Why's that?
See my post above. If you are going to use the "form" let folks know up front. Most guys i know if you show up with one of those you will leave disappointed and they will leave a little more than perturbed.

It offers no protection and is the legal equivalent of an HCP badge.

What is the alternative?

Edited to clarify I'm not being a wise-acre...I'm about to do a trade of my own and would like to know.

Check out the ID to insure they are of legal age - that's the extent of your requirement.

I'd never buy from someone wanting to know all that info - all they need to know is how to count the cash I hand them.

I'm relatively new here, so I wasn't aware of that.

As a buyer, all I care about is whether or not it was stolen or used in a crime. I'm not paranoid about it, but if I was going to protect myself, that would be the reason.

As soon as you put your "Their watching me" tshirt and re-roll your tinfoil hat....:screwy:

This thread wasn't started as a discussion of WHY. The people who want to use the form know WHY they want to use it. The people who don't use the form won't be convinced, so there's no reason to debate it.

Coincidentally, the people who won't use the form also won't be sold a gun by me either.
