I;ve just started watching that, and I;m laughing. It got me thinking that maybe I should get "The Zombie Survival Guide" next time I;m at Books A Million, since I enjoy a good laugh.

But let's have a meaningful discussion about this. And see how serious we can be before our lungs explode from holding in the laughter. Or we find out how many of us have actually thought about this.

(This is a product of late night Youtube and Google.)

I'm more worried about zombies being elected to office than roaming the streets looking for fresh brains to eat... At least on the street one could shoot them.

In my classes, I often get questions about appropriate firearms for use against zombies. I have been recommending 12g shotgun, preferably with magnum shells in #0 buck. A full bandolier is also useful, as is a weapon-mounted light, as zombie invasions usually occur at night. (The argument against weapons lights is that they give away your location. I argue that this is moot with zombies as they can smell the living.)

In my vast experience with zombies, I have found handguns lack the power needed to down a zombie, while most rifle carts will go right through without stopping said zombie. This leaves us with the shotty.

Thoughts anyone? Am I giving my students adequate advice?

All I can tell you is that I've never killed a zombie with a handgun.

Coming from you... this frightens me a bit.

And just what were you doing on capitol hill here in Nashville anyway?

It's just a jump to the left

And then a step to the right,

Put your hands on your ****

Bring your knees in tight

It's just a pelvic thrust

That really drives them insane

Seriously, I thought you had to cut their heads off.

28 days anyone?

They don't smell any brains around Jimmy Naifeh.

well..I don't know about all that..but in my small experience with fighting the undead, I've found that that fire, the first of the 4 elementals, works like a charm...so I recommend something along these lines...

If it wouldn't be illegal, I'd scan up a copy of The Zombie Survival Guide and get it uploaded somewhere. But it's not.

I don't only mean guns. I mean an over-all view. And besides, the book said that a silenced firearm, prefferebly a carbine (queue clip of all of us cramming into Hero Gear) is prefferable ot any large rifle, and a hunting rifle is the second best for accuracy and range. It said if you must use an assault rifle, use the oh-so-famous AK-47, since it has a high-powered round and is damn near impossible to make one stop working. FOr handguns, .45 is recommended. In cases where complete silence is needed, but you aren't close enough or don;t have the ability for a close-quaters kill, a crossbow is reccomended.

Solanium, the virus that casues zombies, shuts down everything except the brain and the lungs. The lungs, while still drawing in and expelling air, do not gain any oxygen or give out carbon dioxide. This is the reason behind the generic moan, as it's inherent call that it's found prey. Solanium-infected flesh repells all but several decomposing organisms, including scavengers. They can wander around for tens of years, more if they are frozen or come in contact with a large amount of embaling fluid. They are at whatever stage of decomposition they were at when they re-animated, approximatly 3 hours after dieing from Solanium introduced through a bite. Any bitten party members have no recourse, and should be killed by destroying the brain immediatly. IF it is an extremety bit, and it is withing a few second, you can remove the limb, but this has a one-in-ten chance of working.

Since Solanium turns the brain into the only real working organ, and has the highest concentration of Solanium, the only way to really kill a zombie is to destroy the brain. Even decapitated heads can still bitw if presented with a chance. Zombies cann also wander along the bottoms of bodies of water, even if they cannot swim. Take care when traversing any body of water that is less than 12 feet deep.

The safest haven from zombies is, amazingly, a prison. Prefferebly pre-1960's, the ones with the 20-foot high solid concrete fences. IF you can create an agricultural area and rasie crops, you can remain at one unti lthe infestation is take ncare of. Hospitals should be avoided like the plague, as should churches. In the early stages of infestation, those bitten are taken to ahospitals where they create more zombies. Churches, if they are small meaning a very small group of people, and have some security measures (iron-wrought fence, solid dors, ect), can actaully serve well, but a large congregation of people praying loudly only serves as a beacon to the Zombies.

Contrary to popular belief, zombies are what they are. Dead humans. They have the smae eyesight as a living human with the eyes in the same condition, but we rely on sight while they ca nuse all of thir senses at once. Some suggest that they have a sixth-sense, as thy can tell their dead counter-parts from living imitators, but there is no proof either way. Zombies lack any healing property, so everytime they do a task requiring heavy muscle use they tear and weaken and do not heal. This may make progressivly weaer zombies, but they do not tire at all. Their digestive tracts are dormant, so they do not eat for nourishment. THe virus Solanium, for some reason, drives them to kill and devour evey living organism in the immediate area. They do not have the coordination ot climb ladder, but can end up in a pile high enough. Same for walls. They have zero climbing ability.

I;m about half-way through the book now. Those are just some select, re-worded selections.

I would suggest the graphic novels "The Walking Dead". It's a great book. They too take up in a prison. It's a really good graphic novel with lots of twists. Still printed, I think it's on Vol. 7 now. (Plus the regular monthly comics.) It's in black and white.

The first artist was replaced that drew it. I liked his style better and his shading was awesome.

Here is a link to some of them on Amazon.

So can you keep them as pets sort-of like a rattlesnake but a bigger cage?

That would be a no. The author goes into detail about this, and why it's a bad idea. I'd suggest buying that book from your local book store (comedy section, probably), or amazon.com. It's like a rattlesnake that'll turn you into a rattlesnake wen you come intocontact with any bodily fluids, the most common are bites. Internal bodily fluids are congealed, so you have a lesser chance of being given Solanum (I misspelled it earlier) via anything other thna a bite or brushing an open wound on an arm or leg against a wound on a zombie.

Hey that AOW "smooth bore handgun" would be the perfect handgun for zombie hunting! Mayby even sme of those cool shotshells like dragonbreath or 12 GA. flares would be effective.

What do they have to say about keeping Zombie Grizzley Bears.

I am Jonesing for some kind of Zombie I'm going over to gunbroker to see if I can get my mind off Zombies.

Hey I just thought of something I will tell my wife we need a zombie and when we start talking about the danger of owning one I will bring up that a Wilson Protector is a lot safer to have around the house. It's easy to keep clean and you can take it for walks. The old bait and switch what ya think?

Who else here has seen Dawn of the Dead ? I think I'd want to travel down to Winchester and hang out on top of Hero Gear with Joe and the rest of them, picking off zombies with his assortment of high powered rifles like the gunshop owner did in that movie. :D

I saw both dawn of the dead and Shaun of the dead! great movies..I believe in Shaun of the dead, he kept his best friend (now a zombie) in the shed, chained up so he could play playstation games with him.:D

I just discovered these and just finished reading all the graphic novels. I think from here on out I will wait for the current comics to be collected into "novel" format before I continue on. Good stuff if you're a zombie fan.

I agree with you concerning the artist. The guy that drew the first novel was excellent.

My wife thinks I've lost my mind since I brought these books home. You would think I slept with a hooker and brought home a little surprise. :D

Got the DVD at home. I loves me some zombie flicks. ;)

I read "World War Z" this summer. It is the "sequel" to the Zombie Survival Handbook. Kind of first hand survivor accounts of the zombie war. It's my understanding that's it's being made into a movie. More brains....

In such an event... it would be good to know that there would be other survivors in my area.

I'll be on my roof with the Mosin.

I'm the same way. I prefer the collected work.

I have thumbed through the Zombie handbook, and hav ebeen meaning to pick up a copy. I love a good zombie flick myself. Still waiting on "28 weeks Later" to come out on DVD. "28 Days Later" was really good.

I saw a Pelican First Aide case on the HKPRO forums once that a guy turned into a Gun Case to hold his USP .45 and extra mags, a guy on the board pointed out that he needed to remove the "First Aide" and leave the "Red Cross" and put the words "Zombie Defense Kit" across the top in Red. LOL!!!

That would look so cool. :D
