Castrol 10w-30 and change at 5000 miles. I use to change at 3000 but I read in consumer reports with todays oil they suggested 7500 miles. So I went half way with 5000 miles.

Motorcraft synthetic blend for my jeep.

Castrol 10W-30 in the truck, both tractors, and the lawnmower, because it was on sale. I don't buy into the fancy add ons, high mileage, low wear, super crud scrubber stuff. Keep it changed often, and you'll usually be fine. Put 305,000 on a truck that way, put 164,000 on another truck like that, put about 3K on my current truck. Changed every 3K, oil and filter.

Mobil-1 or Royal Purple in everything since about 1997. The only issue you have to watch with Royal Purple is to read the label carefully as some of their 5-30/10-30 list for use in pre-2003 vehicles only.

it still wasn't using oil. Loved that engine. I just changed oil every 3-5k and maintained it well.

HMMM.. Sounds to me like it uses 5qts every 3-5k miles...

I like seeing clean oil draining from my pan

Sounds like the detergents in your oil are not working very well.

Used to only use Kendall.. until they were bought out by conoco. When their oil used to be green, it was some of the best stuff ever. Mobil1 seems to be good, seen good and bad with synthetics. But you cannot beat the ol' pennzoil sludge that you used to get in the valve covers.

I use Valvoline 10w30, and when the miles get a little past 100,000, I switch to Valvoline 20w50.

I dont use synthetics, and I change my oil every 5-6000 miles (or so), I just keep an eye on it for breakdown...if it begins to get really dirty, or watery, I change it.

never had a problem.

Valvoline works good for me.

I use nothing but AMSOIL products since 1994. Gas engines you can go 25,000 miles or 1 year between oil changes. Their oil filter also goes 25,000 miles. I use their diesel oil in my Duramax and their air filter, oil filter, trans fluid and gear lube. IMO great stuff.

I prefer Penzoil. No real reason other than it's good oil generally and I tend to pick an oil brand when the vehicle is new and stick to it thorughout its life. Stopped changing my own oil about 10 years ago.

Synthetic oil is great, but if you start using it you should not ever switch back to conventional. I don't think it really makes that much of a difference for low compression low revving cars though. I also wouldn't recommend switching to syn on a high mileage vehicle.

On my 300k 92 Accord I used Castrol and 1 quart of Lucas high mileage additive each oil change. That stuff works great and does not sludge.

Clean oil is generally more important than a specific brand as long as it isn't a strong detergent oil. Quaker State used to be known as Quaker FAte as it would gunk up an engine like nothing I've ever seen.

In general I think the oil is mostly the same however filters are not. If I have to have a place change my oil, as I do on the company vehicle, I buy a high quality filter at the Auto Parts store and take it to the oil change place with me. I have always liked K&N, though there are a number of quality filter makers.

2001 Lumina, 155,000 miles, I use whatever JiffyLube uses in Extended Mileage Synthetic. Used it in my 97 GMC Safari van to 250,000 miles. Tornado used van as battering ram to take out garage or it would still be going. I change every 4,000 miles, rotate tires same time. You take care of any car and it will last a long time! Afraid to buy another GM car, they are selling new Chevys in Nashville for under $10,000, this does not bode well! Looks like either Ford or an American made rice burner for next car.
