Trip to Alabama

I'm going to be travelling to alabama later this week and i was curious about transporting my little skeeter. We're visiting my lady's family who are all pretty big into target shot (mostly rifles but some handguns) and they want me to bring my Mosquito.

I've been researching laws in the states we'll be driving through and all the laws seem too far and between to understand

if i keep my gun in a locked box unloaded, and empty mags, along with my ammo sealed in box set aside in a different area of the vehicle, am i ok?

So happens I'm goin down to Alabammy myself this weekend.

Bama is an open carry state, without permit, except in vehicle.

But much anecdotal evidence that in reality, you are quite likely to be hassled by LEOs for doing it.

My sister lives in Birmingham, been there a few times. Some people may joke about Alabama or Birmingham but I'll take B Ham over Memphis any day.
