Picked up a Bushmaster XM-15 & an FS2000, now what?

Over the past several months I starting getting the AR itch, and finally scratched it last week when I bought nb forrest's Bushmaster XM-15. Besides hunting rifles and shotguns, I've been mainly a handgun guy.

I ended up going out to Hero Gear this past weekend to get some goodies for the Bushy (first time, was not prepared for the sensory overload I experienced before walking through the door :koolaid:, it literally took me 5 minutes before I came out of my coma) , and while I was there decided to get an FS2000 as well (had been wanting one for a bit, and Joe gave me a great deal on one). Other than what I've briefly read, I don't really know much else about it. I went with the FS mainly to be used as a less than a 100 yd gun that'll remain pretty much stock (if not completely), that I can use for home defense and also be able to throw in the car. Are there many FS2000 guys on here? The gun did not come with an owners manual (not that I read much of them), but I want to make sure there's nothing important that I need to know before heavy range use, etc.

Hopefully it'll be easy to take down, but again I'm new to the AR game. Thanks for any feedback/suggestions. Can't wait to get them both to the range. :(

Even the Owners's manual wont tell you this, but Never use any type of Plastic Mag in it, bought mine last yr. NIB get home and put a loaded Thermold in it, which works in all my AR's, could not get the Damn Mag back out.

Had to take off mage bottem plate, pull out spring, follower and ammo, then took a long 12 inch long Needle nose Plyer's and gently break off Mag. pieces inward to the mag body, about had a Stroke doing it, took about 1/2 hr. seemed like an eternity!

So use only standard AR mags!

Best wishes!

Thanks guys, appreciate the heads up on the mags. I fear, like what happened with my 1911 obsession, that these are going to put me in the poor house. But I'm lovin every minute of it...

Just thought of another question. My neighbor is a Navy helicopter pilot and just got back from Iraq, so we've been talking guns etc, and AR's came up. He mentioned it wasn't really good to shoot certain types of ammo a lot in AR's because of the deposits they leave/damage they can do, but I can't remember the kind he was referring to. Any clue what I'm referring to?

Nasty Wolf Steel-cased, or any type of ex-commie steel cased!

Personally, I dont shoot wolf through any of my guns. However, a local PD we supply ammo to shoots nothing but wolf through their AR's and have for years. We're talkin thousands an thousands of rounds, and have had no troubles that we've heard of.

Take that however you will.

The only thing you have to worry about shooting Wolf is the hardness of the steel case wearing the throat on your barrel. The new Wolf stuff is polymer coated to help "slick" it up a little. The old stuff had a lacquer coating on it, and when the gun got hot it gummed up the chamber. I have shot Wolf through my AR's, I prefer brass but if Wolf is all I have then I shoot it. I personally know guys who have shot 1000's of rounds of Wolf in a weekend at MG shoots with no problems what so ever.

Have you ever thought about adding a .308 "battle rifle" to your stable? FAL's, .308 AR's, HK style .308's, and M1A's are the most popular out there. I prefer an M1A myself but thats just me.

If you haven't already check out : FN Forum.NET PS90 FS2000 FN SCAR FiveseveN 5.7x28mm FN Forum.NET :: Index

Tons of good info on there. Also call Browning and buy a spare switch ($17) because unless you are extremely careful (according to the forums) you will break the first one.

Great gun, I have wanted one for a bit, just can't get myself to pull the trigger on it until I sell at least one of my AR and my Sig 556.

And if you decide you don't like it let me know

Looks great! Have you gotten to shoot the PS90? Is the ejection lefty- friendly?

Thanks! Sure haven't, I'd like to.

On the 2000, the spents only come out on the front right, but since they sort of slide forward in random groups I don't think lefties will have a problem.
