homemade black powder....

I've recently seen several articles on making black powder. I've always had an interest in the process stemming partially from my dad and grandfathers interest in black powder long guns and talk of the "mountain men" making their own black powder.

Most of the articles I've seen have to do with making it for fireworks or just as a general science experiment, but I'm curious if anyone here has ever used homemade black powder in any of their BP rifles or pistols?

That seems like the ultimate black powder shooting experience in my opinion, but obviously there are alot of variables and trial and error. Granted.....I probably wouldn't go as far as to make potassium nitrate from my own urine and manure from the local farm, but to mix the components and pour my own lead balls would just add to the experience.
