Just now, was on the news, so the only place you can carry in a park, will be Harrison State Park & Booker T. Washington State park, this is sad!:hat:

Wondering about Colledgedale?

Park=outdoor recreational area

Restaurant=place where food is prepared and sold

Yeah, it's confusing with all these laws passing at the same time. I made the same mistake as you, but then recalled the parks bill included an out for local gummits.

This was my comment on a local news site. I think it sums it up nicely.

That's funny, there are already guns in the parks. However, they are there illegally and in the hands of law breakers. Nothing will change except for the fact that law abiding citizens will not be allowed to protect themselves while in county parks. Criminals do not care about the laws...

Also, this will be a real PITA for permit holders from other states who share reciprocity with TN when they come to visit. Is the state going to provide booklets detailing which cities and counties are not choosing to follow a state law?

But one thing which is nice, next time i go shooting at Prentice Cooper State Forest, i can have my AKs loaded as well as carry my pistol, since i have a HCP, in the past all this was illegal and the only place where one could have a loded gun in the Forest was in the shooting area!:hat:

My understanding is that if guns are not going to be allowed in the park, it must be posted with a sign meeting state defined requirements.

Hypothetical question, but does anyone know what the penalty would be for carrying into a city park that was posted? After all, state law says permit holders should be allowed to carry into parks. Could a city employee just ask you to leave or would it be an arrest situation?

It's a Class A misdemeanor.

Same as DUI.

Yes, you could be be arrested or a citation issued and you released; up to the officer generally.

Carrying in a properly posted business is only a Class C misdemeanor.

Thanks...seems like a huge hassle for citizens visiting from other states where there is reciprocity. I've never known of a state where the local municipalities are trying to do so much to trump a state law.

Up to 1 yr. in Pokey, up to $2.500 fine and permanent loss of your Permit!

As hot as these folks are, the Swat team would come and get you, instead of being asked to leave!

So dont get caught!:)

No, not permanent.

Any Class A, you surrender permit after being charged. If found guilty, you don't get it back for duration of sentence, including probation.

Oddly, though, you CAN lose it permanently for "public meeting" (business) posting violation, and that's only a Class C.

You can also lose it, though, if they want to take the trouble to say you "pose a danger to the public".

Just a note, A local councilman in Nashville made a statement that He doesnot understand why we need to carry in parks, their is no crime in parks.

This also means that off duty police and retired police will not be able to carry in those parks. LEOSA will not cover them so they will be committing a crime just like any of us would. Anyone want to make a citizens arrest?

I would like to extend an invitation to your councilman who said that to walk around Overton Park here in Memphis at midnight on a Saturday. Problem solved as we would never see said councilman again (or on the slim chance we did, he would change his vote).

I'd extend an invitation for him to walk through a few parks in Nashville at night. I think the results would be very similar to your scenario.

Be certain to write the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce and let them know that!
