Automatic closing of old classifieds?

Any chance that old classified ads could be closed or locked automatically after a specified amount of time? Say 1 month, if there has been no posts or bumps? It seems like quite often someone new bumps an ad that is 3 months or more old and everyone swarms it again despite the fact it may have sold months ago.

Someone who is active on the board and interested in selling an item surely would bump the ad to the top if they still were actively seeking to sell it. The ad being closed would prevent it from having new posts and it rising again to the top.

vbulletin does have a purge feature which is easy to set up. I think this is a great idea

We tried it once before with the vbClassified software and more people complained than not.

i think the biggest issue is when there are posts from half a year ago from some people with 0 posts (just came here to advertise i guess) and then the post gets bumped by someone who really is interested in the item several months later. Is there a way to possibly purge the old ads from before benefactor requirements? Or atleast the inactive members

Some of those older threads contain feedback for the buyer / seller. If we nuke the old threads, that feedback goes as well.

Yeah, the vb software or not really wasn't an issue for me. I just thought maybe there was a program line or something that could be added to the current layout to make threads in those sections lock after a month or so. But I guess there's more to it than that.

On a semi-related note, I'd hope the ads are kept searchable, since it can be a great tool to help get an idea of market pricing on different items.
