Question regarding firearm storage

Recommended Posts

I do not have a HCP yet.

I know when I go to the gun range, I have to keep my guns unloaded in the trunk and the ammo in the backseat.

How about in the house? I overheard someone saying that if you do not have a HCP, you need to keep ammo separate from firearms in the house as well. Is this true? Nothing is more useless than an unloaded firearm, but if that's the law, that would be good to know.

Thanks in advance.

If you want to run around with your drawers on top of your head, playing with guns in your own house you are more than welcome and legal to do so. Just make sure no one is watching.

You do not need a permit to own a gun or keep one loaded in your house. Just please make sure you follow all proper safety and storage procedures.

My understanding is regardless if you have a hcp or not if you are in your place of residence you are able to have loaded firearms for personal protection.

You are 100% within your right to have loaded firearms in your home and on your hip while you are on your own property, including your house or your place of business (if you own a place of business).

Even if you are an employee and not the owner, if the owner gives you permission to carry on the job you are ok also.

That is true as well.

my understanding--and I'm sure someone will say otherwise if I am wrong--but:

when you are on your own property--or property under your direct control--meaning you rent a home for example, or own it...you can carry your gun loaded anywhere on your property without a permit--as long as you do not step onto the street, or out of your property boundary. This also applies as I understand it to any business you own...no permit required to carry a gun--loaded or otherwise, as long as you own the property.

You are correct, except as clownsdd pointed out, at work, you don't even have to own the property, you just need the permission of the property owner.
