I'm on the hunt for my pop. He's apparently managed to get himself a yugo sks, and now can't find a couple parts its missing. Anyone have any idea where I can lay my grubby little paws on a complete gas tube latch assembly, and a safety?

wow, for something this common, its amazingly hard to find parts. Found exactly what he needed at buymilsurp.com, unfortunately they were all out. It doesn't look like either of those has quite what he's needing either...the search continues....

Clean, clean, clean, and then clean again. If it is an unissued, there shouldn't be a thing wrong with it. The light strike sounds like cosmoline that hasn't been properly cleaned out of the bolt. As far as the bolt not closing, make sure the chamber is cleaned of all cosmo.

Thats what I hear too. straight of the box you have to really clean them hardcore. They finally got that one fixed by the way, with a new safety, and a bolt put in the gas system. Then the firing pin broke. Only way to get it is a whole bolt assembly for $80, it was a $100 rifle, so I think they finally gave up on it.

I definetly did alot of cleaning, alot of paoer towels, rem-oil and cotton q-tips before I ever shot it once. I paln to make a vid sometime eventually:rolleyes: whenever that happens showing what is exactly happening, and this thing is super clean, no cosmo wax left on it, I make it a habit to regulary clean it whe nit has been used, less that 200 rounds thru it. maybe the rough edges on the metal needto wear off a little bit.

Look guys.......please check out this site. It has all the info you need for for the SKS's. Parts can be replaced including firing pins etc. I just got through building a Norinco myself. This site can help you out a ton!!! It's called the Survivors SKS boards. If ya want to check out my small build, look in the show and tell section...

Not sure actually. Keep in mind, your SKS could be over 50 yrs old depending on which model your have. It's old, old, old technology and parts. Breakin peorids are pretty much not talked about because of the sloppy tolerances created from mass production. They were built simple and made to fire surplus ammo. Kinda like the 1911's except no one produces any kind of updated model today!! :P
