I have several of these for family members that are fired frequently at the range. We love em; all are stainless and relatively maint free. Cheaper than the Smiths and my opinion at least equal. Wish I had a few Colts in the detective specials (6 rounds) but they are outa sight in price!

So far I'm loving my 642 carry comp. In .38 wadcutters you can't tell the difference between it and a regular 642 but the comp makes a hell of a difference when shooting high gas volume +p stuff.

A "rubber" grip covering the backstrap makes a whole lot of difference:)

I carry a 642 with standard pressure in pocket in summer and a 640 with +ps in belt holster in winter. As you can see I use different grips, but both have backstrap covered. 642 wears Uncle Mike "Combats" which are standard S&W "issue" and offer good concealment in pocket. 640 wears Pachmayr COMPACs which absorb the additional recoil of the +Ps.

That's what I have on my 640, Uncle Mikes.
