Ok. I am a General Manager of a Quick Service restaurant. We have 5 panic buttons through out the store. My Production leader came running back to my office to tell me she accidently pushed one of them. I glanced at the time. The alarm company calls my house and then my cell phone.(later seeing it on the caller I.D.) Didn't even bother to call the store first. At this time it was 3 minutes The police stroll in at 5 minutes after the panic button was pushed. I don't know how long it took for everyone to get there phone calls. But, DANG.................

I guess it was a good thing I really didn't need them. I told the police, It took you guys awhile. His remark was "I was just right down the road."

Not sure how large a city you are in, but 5 minutes is not really a bad response time. (Of course look at my sig line)

Also sounds like you may want to check with the alarm company to see what list of numbers they have to call and in what order. Sounds like calling your home and cell first would be ok for a break-in alarm, but a panic alarm should have the store's number first....well after the PD that is.

I have the panic buttons in my restraunts also, Our alarm companies policiy is that if the panic buttons are pushed the first call is to the police. I have to say in Dickson they do a pretty good job they usually show up within 2 to 3 minutes.

I am in this situation often. From the time you hit your panic button until your alarm company notifies dispatch might be several minutes. Then the time between dispatch receiving the call and notifying the responding officer accounts for some of the delay. My scene time on an armed robbery a little while back was under 30 seconds, but the station owner said it had been several minutes since he hit his panic button.

The delay you experienced was most likely, not the fault of the responding officer. I'm sure he loved your snide remark, I hope he did not leave something more important because you "accidentally hit your panic button." I have experienced homeowners who hit the panic button just to see how long it will take the police to arrive. I always explain to them that myself or someone else could have been injured or even killed while I rushed to their fake panic alarm. Next time please call and notify the responding agency that it is a false alarm.

Just for info purposes, IF the alarm company set it up correctly they called the cops first so they should have been on the way within seconds, then they should have called your house and cell phone only to notify you. If they called your house and cell BEFORE dispatching, fire them and get another alarm company.

Can't help that the cops are slow to respond, but eh sure should have NOT "strolled in" (unless of course you are always setting off the panic:cool:).

They should NEVER call the premises on a holdup/panic alarm, and the central station should tell the cops they have a panic or hold up alarm.

Call your monitoring company and demand a copy of the activity report so you can see exactly what happened and when.

Fallguy to answer your question I can drive from her store to the PD in I say 1 min. without lights & sirens.

Also she told me the officer that came in said he was in front of the Taco Bell, so he was closter & had one red light between them.

Now I am trying to remember the guy from Kelly's Heroes that said the negative waves thing. I have had to deal with some really hard things in the past couple of weeks, and when I come here to my "refuge" I hate to hear people saying stupid things. I am trying to think happy thoughts. :drama:

Ah...ok. Well may go back to what other's said about the amount of time from when the button was pushed and the PD was notified.

Should be able to request the dispatch information and see where the lag occured and go from there.

No there was no other accident they left. They was eating in front of Taco Bell.

And we are in a very small town and I went to school or know almost all of the officers since I have worked there for almost 12 years. My remark was not snide. I can't type the body language. That is the first time I have had it hit during the day. If I get the phone call inthe middle of the night they usually are waiting on me since I live 20 minutes away. The system is about 6 mounths old. I didn't know what a reasonable repsonse is.

Sorry Angel, I took the remark wrong I guess.

Again contact your alarm company, they have to record everything, they WILL have a record they can fax or email to you of exactly what happened at what times and who was notified and who at dispatch took the call. I'm serious about this. If it took the alarm company 5 min to call the cops on a hold up alarm then they need to be fired TODAY.

THank you guys for the Info. I will check when I go back to work Tuesday.

This situation is why I have a carry permit. In 5 minutes I could be dead and very well may be even though I have protection.
