update: new question for those of you livng in teh gatlinburg area. From what I hear there is a portion of some park by gatlinburg that has a couple mini rides they described as a sji lift wiithout snow. They said it was kinda in teh mountains. does anybody know what this is and is it part of the nation park where i shouldn't carry?

And when i eneter a portion of the park will i be warned? or is it possible to end up in part of it wothout realizing it?

The big scenic ski lift is in the middle of Gatlinburg, nothing to do with the park.

There are signs on all the roads informing you that you are entering GSMNP.

Once you are parked and on foot in Gatlinburg, which is the way to see the main drag, you won't walk anywhere near the park itself.

You are talking about Ober Galtinburg. No, it's not in the park. While the road to go up to it is near the park entrance, you'll know when you are going into the park since there is a giant size. One warning though, if you take the bypass around Galtinburg, it goes through the park.

As for Dollywood, I was there to video Dolly today for a job with her library foundation and noticed that they don't search you. It's listed on their website that weapons are banned, but I never saw any legal postings, or even the crappy x'ed out gun signs. While I felt safe there the entire day, none of their guards carry a firearm and are almost a little too helpful when going back where park guests are not supposed to be (I was supposed to be able to go back some places where I did, but none never asked me why I was back there, they were just SUPER friendly)

well the time has come and i am leaving for pigeon forge on friday. From what I've gathered I can now carry in restraunts and basically anywhere that's not posted except GSM NP. and i wont be going there but just driving through when going from PF to gatlinberg correct? so i should be fine. Anything incorrect here or any more comments to add before i make the trip? I will be in pigeon forge mainly and gatlingerg a day or two.

So you are from Illinois AND you have a CCW permit?? Unusual combination. I didn't think you could get one of those in the land of Obama.

wowp.gif, sorry for potential thread hijack. I used to live 60 miles south of Chitown and I hated IL gun law.

One example is the F.O.I.D. - Firearms Owners ID Card = epicfail.gif

After leaving army active duty, this is one of the reasons I decide to move from IL to TN. To think you have to apply for a card that will allow you to buy a weapon/ammo is ridiculous.
