Welcome from right off Market St! I, too, recently purchased my first gun. Pretty exciting! Do you plan on hitting the public ranges or have friends with private ranges? I can't say I'd recommend the public ones.

generally i go to unicoi open range but it's... well it's usually crowded. A friend of mine has a membership at Kettlefoot in Gate City, VA so ive went there with him but im looking for a good place to go, any good places locally? Willing to pay membership if need be

I usually go to the range in Unicoi myself. I've heard some good things about Unaka Rod and Gun Club (Unaka Rod and Gun Club), but I've never actually been there myself.

I joined Unaka because I was sick of going to Unicoi and it being slammed. I've never had a problem at Unaka. It's $90 for a year and I think it's worth it. I'd be happy to take you as a guest(either of you) if you'd like to check out the range prior to joining. It's a little bit past the Police department off E. Main St. The only downside is that they close at 6pm. If you're a morning/afternoon shooter like myself, that's not a problem though.

hm that would be fun. I was always under the impression they only had rifle and shotgun ranges. I'll have to check it out.

The rifle range is a pistol/rifle range. They provide target stands and you can put them anywhere you want, such as 7yd or 10yd. If you're interested, let me know and we can work something out. I'm currently out of ammo, but hopefully I'll have some soon.

oh cool! the person i talked to a while back said min of 30 yard on the rifle range :drama:

The bullet impact is supposed to be 30 yd down range, but they don't seem too strict on that. The bullet impact is usually 30yd downrange anyway unless you're some incredibly tall person shooting at a really low target at 7yd.
