Haven't really heard much about it to be honest.

Although it really wouldn't directly affect me, I would like to see it passed.

Yeah, this is the important one for me. I spend a lot of time in the trails and in the woods. It is darn confusing trying to sort out where I can and can not carry legally.

I just, this afternoon, received a phone call from Representative Jimmy Matlock in reply to an email I had sent RE this bill. He assured me he would vote for it.

Some of you boys and girls from other areas may want to push it.

I too spend a fair amount of time backpacking in the Cherokee National Forest but lately I've been spending more time in the Cohutta's of N. Georgia, mostly because carry is legal there. Of all the bills, one to carry in the forest seems to be the biggest no-brainer of them all. I guess a deer or bear's life is more important than a humans?

There was a black bear incident in 2006 in the Cherokee National Forest near Benton Falls, Polk County. The second of two recorded bear attack fatalities in TN. While bear spray is always my first choice for deterrence, I would like to carry my 357 magnum on the trail too.

No, the argument is that poaching might increase. Now, with carry prohibited, everyone with a firearm in a wma is a poacher. If the bill passes, everyone with a firearm will be a potential poacher. I don't get it, I can carry in a bar, but not in the forest.

Exactly! WTF were they thinking when they wrote the law originally??:dirty:

Like someone said, passage of the new law should be a no brainer but please contact your representatives.

This bill; the state park bill; and national park carry would have more of a positive impact on my life than the restaurant carry. Although now that we have it I am pretty happy about the restaurant carry too.

I agree.. I would much rather spend time in the woods legally armed than being overcharged for a steak and a "blooming onion" :meh:

o.k., now I'm confused. I thought this was part of the Parks Carry bill that everyone is up in arms about?

This one makes more sense to me. I was waiting for the Parks carry bill to pass thinking it would cover carrying in Cherokee or GSM but apparently that is different and is covered by this bill?

Can someone clarify this for me?

Placed on s/c cal Budget of FW&M for 06/16/2009 Okay, what exactly does this mean?

There is a $200 or $300 fiscal note on the bill from the TWRA (I'm guessing to update some documentation) so it must go through the budget committee before going to the floor.
