Park Carry and Loaded Long guns?

I think he will veto or possibly allow parks, but not sign. I think he may just let it slide since his supposed big opposition to restaurant carry was that "guns and alcohol don't mix", but everyone has been pretty quiet on parks. Parks have not been a huge issue since local parks could still be off limits if voted that way.

Either way, I'm pretty sure we won't be legally carrying in parks at least in the four biggest TN counties.

The metro council has already passed a non binding resolution against guns in parks, and I've gotted some pretty snide comments in response to a e-mail I sent them so you can bet none of the parks in Davidson Co will allow it, now if they post illegal signage, that's on them

No, it's on you.

Unlike perhaps individual establishments, these big counties will not care if their signs are "legal"; it will be up to YOU to prove they aren't when they arrest you.

Or you can be the test case (deep pockets needed) which gets them to change to legal signage. Either way, we won't be freely carrying in these local parks.

I'm afraid you're probably right.

The one thing that will help is for parks they have to post signs that with stated minimal measurements and are exactly worded per 39-17-1311©

I don't disagree with that info, but.....

What might be better is no liability and/or immunity from any liability for property owners for any actions by permit holders on their property.

That would probably have a better chance of passing and would remove that as a reason for any place to post.

I would bet he will veto the park bill for the same reason he vetoed the restaurant carry bill. I think one of the reasons he vetoed the restaurants carry bill is,if an innocent person was shot he thought he would be labeled as the Gov. that put "guns in bars". His veto being over ridden had to be expected. I think the parks bill might play out the same way. I just hope we can count on our reps and sen. to do the right thing and override him again.

Won't matter, bro. Almost certainly you won't be legally carrying in Davidson County/Nashville City parks.

State parks are legal in this bill and AFAIK can not be posted.

However any signs already posted in state parks will be left up.

Cedars of Lebanon,HERE I COME!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess they would just be posted for persons without carry permits.

Question about Metro parks if they ban guns. If you look at a map of Centennial Park, you will notice that 31st ave from West End to Park Plaza rd. to Charlotte Ave. goes straight through the park. I think Park Plaza is a public road not officially part of the park. Can some yahoo anti-carry park ranger bust you for traveling through the park on a main road that happens to go through a park but leads to another road out of the park?

That is correct, at least it is the reason given. The real reason is, it would have cost to remove and/or change old signs. That would have added a fiscal note to the bill, which might have been enough reason for some to vote against it.

AFAIK as long as you are on a public roadway, even if goes through a posted park, you are still legal.

I work on large Federal instalation that has a state hwy going through it. As long as you are on the public roadway you are not actually "in" the instalation.

Of course if any road is considered part of the park then the rules of the park would apply.

Thanks Fallguy, just hope all park rangers know the law. I'm betting there will be a few who would just love to get an illegal gun bust since all the recent media hooplaa about these bills. Not saying all park rangers are this way but I knew one years ago who was a real jerk.

10 days excluding Sundays.

Ok so when are the 10 days up? Of I guess more correctly when did they start? The day it passed both the house and the senate. the day the latter speaker signed it, or the day it got to him? By my math today was 10 days (-sundays) from it passing that latter part of the legislature.

I would guess the park thing (aka Guns on swingsets) will be veto-ed. The long rifle thing (AKA deer hunting from behind the steering wheel bill) is really not even drawing criticism from anti's so I think he will just ignore it.

Still laughing from that!!...though it is a real possibility.

Well, if he vetos those I can't see him ever holding any office in TN ever again and it will prove that he is just another obamaniac. Because Liberals and Brains....don't mix!!

The 10 days starts from when it is sent to the Governor's desk. That was done on Monday 6/1/09.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure how they cound the days, but I guess that would make the 10th day on 6/11/09

That's my understanding the ten days would be up on the eleventh, since they don't count Sundays.

Only if you count the day it lands on the desk as day 1. By my count, the

"he has 10 days to veto it" ends on Friday, the 12th. One way or another, we'll know by later this week.

I sure hope there isn't a Park Ranger convention in town this week. :)

I still think the Gov's ONLY motivation is political.

He's not planning on running for re-election. So he doesn't care about anything he has said or committed to in the past. His main focus is getting a Democrat as his replacement in the next election cycle. By vetoing this bills, which are are against many of the principals held close by Democrats, he is providing ammo (pun intended) for the next Demo candidate.

Well here in Clarksville they said they will ban guns from all city and county parks, but they have no say so over state parks, Dunbar Cave. According to what was in the Leaf Chronicle last week, you cant bring any gun, bow and arrow, slingshot or even a pocket knife onto the parks. These are different times than when I was a kid.

If you live in a city/county where the local goverment band handguns in their parks, keep a check on the state parks close to you.

After a period of time where there on adverse incidents by HCP holders or

maybe even where a HCP holder was able to defend themselves, you may get the city/county council to reconsider and remove the restriction.

Probably wishful thinking I know, but worth a chance.
