Both were sent to the Governor on 6/1/09

Parks HB0716

Long gun HB0390

My hope is after today...that since the vote to override the veto for the restaurant carry bill was essentially the same as the original vote to pass in both houses. That the governor will so no need in vetoing either of these bills.

Again...so I hope.

Considering the other gun bills Bredesen has signed, I don't see him having a problem with the long guns bill. And as far as the Parks bill is concerned, I'm sure he figures that will probably get overridden too and that would really make him look bad. Besides, it doesn't take effect until Sept 1 anyway, so he won't have that 40 day rule to piss us off with. LOLOLOL

Maybe, just maybe, he'll let it just become law.

but he might have a sore ass after being overridden, so he could be a dick and veto these as well.

This was the impression I got at the veto ceremony. Saying he would look at all future gun bills very closely.

I would guess the park thing (aka Guns on swingsets) will be veto-ed. The long rifle thing (AKA deer hunting from behind the steering wheel bill) is really not even drawing criticism from anti's so I think he will just ignore it.

that actually made me laugh out loud. I could actually hear a local nashville station saying something like "guns on swingsets" haha

Ok this conversation got weird....quick.

How is the parks thing working, if it passes the governor, we can carry in all parks unless each local government passes a local ordinance saying that you can't carry

Or is it the other way around, It is ok only if the local guys pass an ordiance saying you CAN carry in a park?

Oh, and happy bday J.

The bill that passed makes it legal by default to carry in local parks.

Local government by a resolution prohibit may carry in a park. It would have to be the entire park.

If the do that they must post specific signs.

Hopefully too expensive for them to worry about.

State Parks?

State Parks?

State parks are legal in this bill and AFAIK can not be posted.

However any signs already posted in state parks will be left up.

Legal written signs, no gun with circle and slash or just stating "No Guns".

I think I am about caught up.

Will start doing a lot more camping this year and years to come, kids finally old enough and love it....Will be hitting up state parks from time to time.

I'm predicting veto.

And failure to override in this session.

Hope I'm wrong for you all wanting to carry in state parks so badly.

I predict signature on Loaded long guns so he can maybe show his "support of 2nd amendment rights" to hunters.

I think he will veto or possibly allow parks, but not sign. I think he may just let it slide since his supposed big opposition to restaurant carry was that "guns and alcohol don't mix", but everyone has been pretty quiet on parks. Parks have not been a huge issue since local parks could still be off limits if voted that way.
