Went to Cootie Brown's Thursday for my birthday -- had great salad, pizza, and dessert -- I was stuffed, and brought leftovers home -- but the advice on gun shops was certainly used and appreciated! We went to six stores, but the two stores I liked the best were Byrd's and the Tri-Cities Gun Depot. I met Marcus at Byrd's, who was very nice - sold me a Picatinny rail laser and checked it out first to make sure it worked AOK. They had quite a selection at Byrd's! Also met Tom and Brian at the Gun Depot, and bought a great little conversion kit from them along with some much needed reloading supplies. The Gun Depot had the best prices on Springfield Armory XD and XDMs that I've seen anywhere! In the past, I've bought exclusively from the Knoxville area gun stores, but in the future, I'm going to be checking prices with these stores, too. It's not that far of a trip, and besides, I'd get to eat at Cootie Brown's!:hat:

Let me start off by saying I have always had good luck at mahoneys. It is hard for a place like Mahoneys to staff their place with knowledgable people and pay them a decent salary and be the cheapest place in town. Their customer service is great, and if you have a problem they will make it right. They have been in the business for a long time, and will hopefully be in business for a long time in the future.

They have always been pleasant with me, and I have bought 2 guns there in the last 2 years and my next purchase will likely be from them in the future.

I have not done a lot of business with the other places in town so I cant speak for them.

I have been checking prices lately and Mahoneys prices dont seem to be a lot higher that some of the other places in town.

Cabo, both of the posts you replied to today... your first day here... have been about Mahoney's. It seems you're pretty close to them. Maybe you can pass along that TGO does sell advertising if they want representation here.

Every time I check they are at LEAST $50-100 higher that Tri-City Gun Depot or Byrds. While some people there are really nice and helpful, most seem anyoyed to have to answer questions. Its kind of like "best buy" for me. Where I like to go in and look around at the large selection but then buy elsewhere where I can get a much better deal. For a guy like me, saving a 100 bucks or more is a big deal.

Now Crowders is another story as they will rip you off in a heart beat. Look no futher than their dishonest sign out front to see what they are about "Going out of Business" then changing it after a week to "Going out for Business" and doing this several times a year to lure people in thinking they will get a good deal. Last time I went in there the store was almost empty and he said it was because of the run on guns and that was why he had higher prices too... but he has ALWAYS had higher prices and it was just another lame gimmick to attempt to rip people off.

At Tri City Gun Depot and Byrds you have people that know their stuff and will go out of their way to help you. The customer service is simply the best and no matter how much you might pester them with questions, they will always be eager to help you.

My latest purchase and next purchase however has been with the Tri City Gun Depot as they have had a slightly better price and great service.

Everytime I visit this store it amazes me at the lack of customer service and willingness to help. I went in a few weeks ago looking for a few items. After being told they did not have the items guess what.....I found them. I took them to the counter where the guy (the same guy who told me they did not have what I was looking for) was standing and asked him what the cost would be. He said just over $330.00. I said well you just lost a $330.00 sale. I will never darken their doors again. There are too many smaller shops that really appreciate your business such as Brian and Tom at Tri Cities Gun Depot.
