and thanked him for at least being decent enough to have his staffers reply with form emails. He stopped by on his way out and asked for my name and the name of my friend from Canada.... it gets better.

I asked him about his thoughts in re: the government's bailout of GM. He went on to say that the government was doing nothing more than providing a "bridge loan" to a company that was "vital to the economic health and history of the US." He then regaled us with at least 20 examples of songs and pop-culture icons that featured GM products. I told him that this particular constituent is a big fan of small government, against socialized medicine, and a HUGE fan of the constitution. My friend from Canada then went on a rant about how ineffective their healthcare system is.

He took it like a champ, though. He was REALLY pleasant through the entire conversation.

Steve's not a bad guy. I thank him every day for the TN Lottery and the Hope Scholarship. I've met him a time or two. I can think of plenty of worse politicians. Read: Nikki Tinker, John Ford, W.W. Herenton, Harold Ford Sr., (some Memphis fav's).

Yes, he's currently a U.S. Representative. He'd previously been a state Senator.
