OK so I could not resist...

Coming back from Southern Mississippi (Stennis Space Fight Center that is) I could not pass up the chance to stop by Anniston, Alabama, and I could not resist bringing a little piece of refurbished history home...

With a folding stock, and pink...

Seriously, they had lots of Field and Service grade Garand's and few match grade ones and they had several of the .30 cal M-1's. This one is a rebuild with a new stock and Wilson barrel.

That is a beautiful piece. What affiliated club do you belong to?

Thanks, I am a member of the Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association (ORSA). I can't wait to compete in their CMP matches next year, or maybe this fall if there is one left...

I have one. Do you mind if I ask what that one cost you? Just that I like to know where to refer people to get one. I got mine from a local dealer. Mine is a Springfield Armory with the serialization showing it was made in 1958. VERY clean and great barrell. I also found a good deal on a full length bayonet, not a cut down, marked 1943 still in the cosmoline. VERY great fighting rifle.

Thanks and ENJOY, RN

This one was Select Grade at $895.00.

They had several at field grade for $495 and Service grade for $595.

Then there were 1,500 and higher rifles that looked real pretty. And then there was the $25K pair of brand new in the original shipping materials Garands. They were gorgeous!

The .30 cal M-1's were running $395 and there was no grade or other quality listing.

Fury2Neon,

Welcome to the club! I have a pair of CMP M-1's at home, one an IHC, the other an H&R. The H&R shoots like nobodys' business. Didja pick up any of the greek ammo?

If you ever get up my way when I'm home, bring your rifle!

BangBangBangBangBangBangBangBang PING!

Thats' a fine iron lady you have there. She'll do you right.

I plan to order a case or two of the greek myself shortly.

On a side note, just got the 'shipped' e-mail from CMP on my pair of Inlands.

Cool, I was surprised by the number of M-1 Carbines on the shelf. I thought they were sold out till September. They look like they would be a lot of fun to shoot.

I plan on using this piece of history in the CMP classes and matches next year at ORSA. It looks very nice sitting next to my 8mm Mauser (1939 vintage).

Oh and thanks for the offer to come shoot with you.

Hey, you are very welcome. I am at sea at the moment, but hope to be home in November. Back in the day, I shot Fleet matches, it'd be a lot of fun. If you want to practice for matches, you are going to need a SLED - single round loading device - and a clip modified to hold 2 rounds, unless the rules have changed.

I know a couple of kids that I plan to introduce to those carbines. Thought I'd missed my chance at them, but CMP reopened ordering on the 8th, and I snagged a couple before they ran out again.

Those CMP select grades are beauties, judging by yours.

VERY nice Fury!

Much jealousy here in Gallatin this morning...

Thanks for the tip. The guys I have watched nearly took their fingers off trying to slow fire (smashed index fingers anyway.) I was wondering how that could be done easily and safely.

Those 8 round clips sure beat the heck out of the 5 round stripper clips into the K98 Mauser. So much faster and less aggravating.

I would love to. If you have a place and date I can try to make it.

November and December are my wifes business's busy months, she has a restaurant and caterers for the events held in her brother's ballroom (120 regular seating or 80 with a buffet). So I "get" to help her.

Well, my place is okay for pistols, but I don't have anything like the range needed to exercise these gals. Maybe we can work something out with Cherokee rod and gun?

Right this minute, I don't have a relief identified, so I am not sure when I will be off the ship. Shooting for 25 October, with 60 days at home. They're gonna scream about the 60 days, I already know.

The requirements are listed at ODCMP.com. Short answer is yes, but check anyway, you would be surprised what counts as affiliated.

I can get us in at ORSA, 1000 yard range... etc... I am going to try to go to the CMP clinic on September 15th. I will talk to Charlie, the CMP coordinator, about a group coming in during November. I don't know if he will be receptive or not but he's the boss.

This is beginning to sound like a plan. Would be a good opportunity for people to complete the shooting requirements for CMP eligibility. Fun, too...

Okay, Folks, I have 5 or 6 service rifles (M1's and M1A's) to loan out. Want to make it a TGO match?

Fury, once you get some info/confirmation from Charlie, maybe we should turn this over to a moderator for a new sticky topic.
