Personal Defense Ammo

Recommended Posts

I have been looking at some carry ammo and think I have decided on the Speer Gold Dot. I have found a site that carries Gold Dot hollow point cartridges and I email them and they said they buy the bullets and manufacture the cartridge themselves. Here is the link to the site.

"NEW".40 Smith & Wesson 155gr Gold Dot Hollow Point +P 50pk

I have heard good things about Georgia Arms and probably would not use these as my carry ammo but would like to put quite a few of the Gold Dot rounds through my XDm to make sure it has no issues with the Speer rounds. Do you think these would be the equivalent of the Speer Gold Dots? Would it be safe to say if I put a couple hundred rounds of the Georgia Arms ammo it would reliably fire the Speer ammo also?

Thanks

i've shot a bunch of georgia arms' stuff, both fmj and their hollow points...

that said, it's really good for the money, but i've had a few bum cartridges here and there...

for carry ammo i'd spend a little more for the honest to goodness factory gold dots (i've never had a failure with the speer factory stuff including their lawman fmj).

i've pretty much decided on the gold dot 124gr +p (same as nypd) for my 9mm carry ammo these days, and it's actually not that expensive, it can be found for around $20 or so for a box of 20, or around $30 for a box of 50.

jmho.

Good choice. Me too.

That said, I wouldn't hesitate to carry Georgia Arms 124+P Gold Dot either.

You can't go wrong with Gold Dots. Hornady TAP on the other hand... meh. The ballistics reports I've seen of TAP are pretty unimpressive. It's a lukewarm performer at best.

Sadly I have a lot of TAP ammo in my stash. I need to shoot it up and replace it with better ammo.

I bought 1100 of these GA 124+p , shot 100 and stashed the rest.

All performed perfectly in 4 9mm pistols and HiPoint 995 carbine.

Have shot a couple thousand of GA's "canned heat" 9mm also, never one dud.
