I got a reply from my email to Mr. Faulkner this morning. Thought you all might like to see it. He will have my vote next election too

"I will be working with the sponsor of House Bill 962 and we intend to veto the Govenor on his outrageous decision not to allow citizens to bare arms. I am a co sponsor of this legislation and it personally disgust me the Govenor has chosen not listen to the General Assembly on this matter. I think we spoke loudly in regards to the 2nd ammendment and citizen rights. Thanks if I can be of any assistance to you in the future fill free to call.

I got a voice mail from Rep Curry Todd this evening and he said the Veto will be coming up for vote Wednesday morning. He also said there is a lot more support for overriding the veto than the opposition does, should be done Wednesday.

From other info I have posted, as soon as that is done, Sen Jackson I assume would bring it up on the Senate floor.

Firearms and Ammunition - As introduced, allows persons with handgun carry permit to carry in public parks, public postsecondary institutions, and places where alcoholic beverages are being served; allows judges to carry firearms where law enforcement can carry if they have permit or appropriate training. - Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13 and Title 70.

They ought to just substitute the override, because this one has NO CHANCE of being enacted.

No agendas are posted yet for Wed. or Thursday. Since I doubt the Senate will stay in session long enough on Wed., (do they even meet on Wed.?) to pick up the ball from the House, will they really get to it Thursday, or will there be more delay, delay, delay?

You stated the law might have changed since the AG opinion ... from what I read on the link you provided though it appears to be the same ... the places mentioned would still be off-limits to off-duty LEOs, right?

39-17-1350. Law enforcement officers permitted to carry firearms — Exceptions — Restrictions — Identification card for corrections officers. —

(a) Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, any law enforcement officer may carry firearms at all times and in all places within Tennessee, on-duty or off-duty, regardless of the officer's regular duty hours or assignments, except as provided by subsection ©, federal law, lawful orders of court or the written directives of the executive supervisor of the employing agency.

( The authority conferred by this section is expressly intended to and shall supersede restrictions placed upon law enforcement officers' authority to carry firearms by other sections within this part.

© The authority conferred by this section shall not extend to a law enforcement officer:

(1) Who carries a firearm onto school grounds or inside a school building during regular school hours unless the officer immediately informs the principal that the officer will be present on school grounds or inside the school building and in possession of a firearm. If the principal is unavailable, the notice may be given to an appropriate administrative staff person in the principal's office;

(2) Who is consuming beer or an alcoholic beverage or who is under the influence of beer, an alcoholic beverage, or a controlled substance;

(3) Who is not engaged in the actual discharge of official duties as a law enforcement officer while within the confines of an establishment where beer or alcoholic beverages are sold for consumption on-the-premises; or

(4) Who is not engaged in the actual discharge of official duties as a law enforcement officer while attending a judicial proceeding.

Bear in mind that legislators are coming in to Nashville from all the nooks and crannies of TN.. from the furthest northeast corner to the furthest southwest corner.

You could look at Monday and Friday as "travel days" to get back and forth, home to work & work to home.

As I understand the way it works, this won't be, the sponsor makes a special motion for it, though I leave open the door that I may be wrong. The rules are byzantine on a good day.

One of our guys in the TFA says Todd will be doing the over-ride Wednesday. I wonder how long before one of the nay-sayers comes along saying that if we had only accepting restrictions...

Anyway, if you haven't done so, write your elected officials! I know in the Chattanooga area:

Floyd (mine!) - Says he will. If he is yours, write and thank him.

Dean - waffling. Write and politely enlist his support.

Cobb - personally against, but voted for the bill due to constituent e-mails. He is at least honest enough to do what his voters want. Write him!

McCormick - Historically supports us, but I haven't been getting much contact from him. If he is yours, make sure he supports us.

Favors and Brown - Typical urban Democrat scumbags. If they are your Rep, I pity you. Of course, I still advise contacting them, even if only to practice letter writing.

Watson - Supports us, but we ought to still send a polite e-mail. He should know this is important, especially if he goes to take Wamp's seat, he could be a strong supporter of ours Federally if we ensure he knows this is important.

Berke - He replaced Crutchfield, but votes the same way. He uses the same tired excuse of doing what LE wants. Perhaps he ought to do what voters want? Contact him!

I think that gets them all.

Okay, so assuming that the override actually gets on the calender for the Wed. 9am session, and gets approved, will the Senate be able to get it in their 1:30pm session?

Or do they need some kind of waiting period to vote on it?

You're right, what you have in read are the off-limits places/situations for LEOs.

The law has changed, but I think maybe only the last parts are relating to Correctional Officers...
