So this weekend the GF and i went to 6 flags in Louisville, KY. We had a fun time and we were kind of tired so we bought the worlds biggest icey. We sat down to eat it and were looking at all the people around us. No lie 1 out of 4 people were overweight. I could not believe it. I have heard that our country is over weight but holy cow i had not noticed it. I hope this doesn't offend anyone because its not what i want to do. Im just saying how can most people get like that? Do you think its the mass amount fast food and the convenience to just go buy it? Not enough exercise? WHAT IS GOING ON???

I'm overweight. Junk food/food that's not good for you is always more convenient than food that is healthy. Some people just get into a cycle of eating junk because it's easy. Putting it on is the easy part. It takes no effort. Taking it back off requires effort and some people choose not to do it because it takes work. And Americans are lazy. Honestly, I hate exercise. I despise it. But I also realize it's the only way to stay healthy.

He was making a simple, fairly obvious observation that we are an obese nation. I find nothing shallow about it. It's a simple fact.

:meh: I don't think it's an unfair or shallow observation, but here's my two cents:

Obesity in America can be blamed largely on changes in mass food production (both farming and processed foods), and lifestyle changes (that have in turn made foods of convenience into a necessity) over the past half century.

I find it shallow.

I also find it humorous coming from a 21 year old. Nature will take its course.

I was not being shallow. I was just stating an observation and asked the fellow board member what they taught is a cause to this. I find it humorous that a reaction like that is coming from a 51 year old. You don't admit to the problem I am stating with our country, just on how I am "unacceptable" in some ways. Anyways the people overweight ranged from CHILDREN to pretty old. It sucks. I think when I get out I will be a personal trainer to help people. Exercising really sucks. I hate it, sometimes. I think you have to do things your OWN way to make it fun and enjoyable. And once you do that you become better and it doesn't suck anymore!

I'm Fat. Very fat. It's my own fault.

Yes, I can eat a lot, but it's more what I eat, rather than how much of it I decide to shovel in my fat face. Sometimes I will eat far too much food that's bad for me. On top of that, I am lazy. If I'm not at work, 9 times out of 10 you'll find my fat a$$ sitting in front of this computer.

No need to throw around a bunch of excuses of why I have let myself get this fat, because fact is, there is no excuse.

By the way, I walked nearly 1 1/2 miles today when I got home from work, and I plan on doing it several times per week. No it's not a record, but it's nearly 1 1/2 more miles than I've walked in quite a while.

It's simply something I need to do. I don't want to die of a heart attack before I get the chance to pick up a few sleezy chics on my new motorcycle. Heck, the bike is going to have a hard enough time draggin' my fat a$$ around, it surely wouldn't be able to handle another person.

To answer your question, most people are fat for the very same reasons that I am. It's actually pretty simple. Eating too much of the wrong foods and not getting enough exersize.

Suggestion - NO MORE cokes, diet drinks only. You will be surprised what a difference this will start to make. And EXERCISE daily, walking at least 20 minutes at one time is the way to start, doesn't have to be a fast walk just continuous.

I'm fat. I know it.

It's because I eat too much of the wrong foods and I don't exert the discipline to exercise. I have a feeling my life is about to get a lot more active though.

Tennessee has the fattest people I have ever seen. It ranks in the top in the nation for obesity. But fat people can loose weight, ugly people stay ugly. I could stand to loose a few pounds too, but I am a very handsome man.:hat:

I don't think it's one single reason why people are obese. However, all those reasons are the fault of the person who is obese. Me included. I'm a fat ass and the reason is because I stopped drinking alcohol at the age of 18 and replaced it with Dr. Pepper.

I drink so much Dr. Pepper it's not even funny. When I try to stop drinking Dr Pepper I get the urge to start drinking booze again. Especially when I get stressed out. I'm an effing alcoholic, and always will be (I haven't fallen off the wagon I just always have the urge to).

Another reason is because I don't exercise. 4 years ago I was on bike patrol working for a PD out in California and I could eat any thing I wanted. I moved to Tennessee and have just sat on my ass, yet I still eat any thing I want.

My own damn fault. I just need to get motivated. I'm sure my first heart attack before I hit the age of 30 will be a great motivator.

I am a dumb ass no doubt.

Sorry if my comment stirred up a rats nest. Okay I am not sorry but I am polite sometimes.

I figure i am a fatso because my grandparent lived through and raised families during the great depression. (Which incidently was about a million times worse than this media depression that the savior has cured.) Food was not plentiful on their tables.

I remember my step dad refusing to eat chicken as we grew up because that was the only meat his family could afford, period, for many years. Of course that was if there was meat on the table at all.

Anyway back to my maternal grandparents, who had an awful lot to do with with how I was raised. They preached "clean your plate" You did not leave the table until your plate was clean. They decided on portions. I have no doubt it was to ease their minds that we were being well fed while in their care on weekends and whenever else we were there. My mother also was a colonel in the clean your plate army. They meant well but it did not set me up for success at not being fat.

I was always told I was "big boned" which I know now is a euphimism for FAT.

I suppose this attitude was and is in many families. The country has never known the levels of indulgance that it has today, even in this so called depression. Heck even the welfare recipients have cell phones, internet, cable TV, microwaves, flat screens tv's etc. So it stands to reason that people will over do it with food too.

Of course add that to lazy f*>ckers sitting in front of the TV all day, or in front of a computer monitor instead of activiely participating in life and you have a fat society.

And McDonalds and KFC taste goo, I don't care.

Of course I do get a chuckle out of youngsters and how they see things through unexperienced eyes.

Mother nature might just reach up and bite you when you least expect it in about 15 or 20 more years.
