Looking for confirmation...
The Tennessee Instant Check system has crashed. A rep for HP is flying

in today to try to fix it. If it is not fixed today they said it could be up

to 6 days before it will be back up. (or anyone can buy a gun)

Another reason we need to change to the National System.

OMG! THANKS Tungsten,

Now Julie is PIIIIIISSED! she just bought a desert eagle in .45 (the baby eagle) and is waiting on it...she wants to bring it home so bad she can't stand it...when I read this thread out loud, she just went into the bathroom and started cussing.

she's excited...I think because I only guided her in the decision..she did everything else..so she wants her pistol home!!!

You know if I were the govt. disliking citizen being able to buy guys as they do, and I wanted to interrupt the whole system, I'd either break the computer system or just say it was temporarily broke down. Say the thing stays on the fritz for 6 days. Well, your right to buy a gun is gone for that many days. In this year/high tech age, THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH. If they can wreck your rights to buy a gun for 6 days they can do it for 7. etc. etc. And people wonder why I thing that whole instant check, yellow form like filling out your income tax should GO!!

I couldn't help it honey, I'm proud of you...thats actually quite a NICE pistol!

Now, all we need to do is make sure that you can get it.

I wonder if we can bring suit against the federal government for destroying commerce and providing a HUGE roadblock in our ability to exercise our 2a rights.

Any updates on this? My wifes' new toy should be in on Friday - finally. 6 month wait on the gunsmith. Don't want her to make a wasted trip.

I wonder if the gun stores have any legal recourse...I'm sure we serfs don't.

They had a spot on Fox17 news about all the money the gun stores are losing.

Talked to Gunslinger's today. The system is up and running again, but of course there is a back log. I'll prolly be cleared tomorrow to get my new pistol. :woohoo:

I spoke to a person who works in TN state govt today (TN Higher Education Assistance Corporation) and their systems are down as well. It seems the construction project to build the new transit station downtown Nashville has caused some damage to some computing systems/network cables, etc. The Instant Check system is one of several casualties. While the conspiracy theorists may be drooling at the chance to leap here, it seems its just a construction error, and part of the delay in repair is the debate over who's fault it is. If its any consolation, other people attempting to do business with or via the state are also in a bad way.

I'm guessing things must be fixed by now. I was at Bass Pro at Opry Mills this evening, and there were MANY people buying guns, and they seemed to have no problems. Registers were ringing and guns were being walked out the door. (At BPS, gun purchasers must be escorted to the exit with their gun by a store employee. I wonder what caused that policy to come into being? It certainly is not a state or federal law.)

Btw, WWB 9mm 100 round box is $13.49 there. Considering the 50 rd box is 10 bucks, that ain't bad.

Finally, it seems Opry Mills has acquired a Tony Roma's. Had some good ribs. Yum.

+1 I bought 1200 rounds this weekend. I got a lot of strange looks from everyone pushing 12 boxes around in a stroller. BPS was not quite ready to handle that much ammo at one time. They struggled to package it up, wound up putting it all in a large plastic bag that ripped as soon as I picked it up.

The BPS store in Kodak is posted as a " weapons must be checked". I assume that would apply to new purchases as well. Gander Mtn. in Farrugut has the same rule about employee assistance to the door.

I read the TICS story in this mornings paper and it stated that this is the first time the system has gone down for "more than five minutes". That is not true or I was lied to. Back in June when I bought the SP-101. I was held up for six hours on the purchase and I was told that the TICS system was down.

Gunslinger's

I love that place, great milsurp section in it.

New Kimber is due in tomorrow.

I called today just to see if maybe it came in early, but it was wishful thinking. :stir:

So would that crash effect those of us waiting for our HCP? Do they use the same system for the background for that or a different one?

I would like to see the law changed so valid HCP holders

can bypass the TICS

I hear there are states that do this, obviously more progressive

ones than TN

I wonder how much revenue that would cost the TBI, losing that $10 every time an HCP holder bought a gun...

I would love such a change, but that is one reason which will cause it to be opposed.

The gentleman in Alabama that I bought the Kimber from had this to say about that state...

I'm a native Tennessean, originally from the Knoxville area. I think Alabama uses the FBI's system for instant checks. Here it takes a week and $7.50 to get a CCW.

Here in Birmingham, 12% of all adults have a CCW, a greater % than anywere in the US. According to one friend of mine who is a police LT, 75% carry, at least in their cars.

It sounds like the further south you move, the closer to God's Country you really get.

I can flat tell you why this will never happen. The TDOS and TICS do not know what the other is really doing.

TDOS could approve you for a carry permit. You could do something illegal after that and be arrested which will not allow you to possess or purchase handguns. Without the background check TICS would not know you were not allowed to purchase. Your permit may be invalid but TDOS might not know you were arrested for several weeks or months. If not convicted or if you are not a fugitive you can appeal a denied purchase and may well be approved.

For one, I am not so much against the idea of a TICS background check, what I am against is the storing of information related to your new firearm being saved in data-bases.

I am not sure how often they exchange information but it sure is not daily or weekly.
