They were going to vote on this tomorrow & shove it through under the cover of the Holiday weekend, but cooler heads prevailed. It is now delayed, but you'd better write your reps, because this is nothing but a Police State agenda in disguise. Democrats are coming for our civil rights, so make no mistake about it. You can guarantee they will fingerprint you if you have a firearm in your vehicle, at their "discretion"..

I sent this email to Haynes (with a cc to my Senator)...

"Dear Senator Haynes,

You really need to not only rethink this bill, but pull it entirely in it's present state. It's not so much the replacing ink with electronic technology, but replacing the signature acceptance of a ticket with the fingerprint as the new mandatory default method.

It's not that I have anything to hide, I've been fingerprinted when I got my xxx and every time I've changed xxx. And also when I got my handgun carry permit. But it's the principle of the thing here.

Your bill is an intrusion into our 4th Amendment rights, requiring a fingerprint at the side of the road without probable cause or a judge's warrant. This is an unnecessary intrusion into our privacy. I have no qualms about signing a ticket for an officer, acknowledging that I've received the ticket and what my responsibilities are pertaining to it.

But I'm not going to give him a fingerprint on principle.

Do you really want to make criminals out of law abiding citizens that believe in their Constitutional rights?

Sincerely, "

Awesome Letter Hex!

You said almost word for word what I said when I wrote to our Reps/Senators on this over the weekend.. It's not the fingerprint that bothers me, it's the violation & the demand for information that is disproportionate to the need for getting the job done.

I don't want people who don't know me very well in my neighborhood wondering why the cops are scanning my fingers on the side of the road. Something like this could damage a person's reputation whether right or wrong. It's an abuse of power in my opinion.

I am going to just go ahead and carry pee in a cup for them to take.

LOL. Be sure and wait for them to ask first. I'd hate to get shot for peeing on an officer.:D

Who says they can't get your dna from the fingerprint?

I would assume that is a real possibility.:meh:

So let me get this right... the state can't afford to put fingerprinting equipment at each DMV because "it's so expensive" (so we honest citizens seeking a HCP don't have to hunt down someplace to get fingerprinted) but they're wanting to put similar equipment in every police vehicle?

I'd like to know the statistics of deaths by firearms vs. deaths by auto accidents. Heck they can start fingerprinting anyone who wants a driver's license because, I don't know about you, but I'm more afraid of getting run over than shot. :D

Eh, give them a little more time and they'll start wanting to require that children be fingerprinted before they can attend school, but it'll all be in the name of "safety". As we know, anyone who objects to anything to do with so-called "saftey" must be an uneducated idiot.
