25% Drop In Gun Ownership In Mass.

Recommended Posts

I posted a link in the Concealed Carry forum about the pitiful state of affairs in Maryland. Yesterday the Boston Globe published a story praising the 25% drop in legal gunowners in Massachusetts. Here is the link:

http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2007/08/12/gun_permits_drop_25_in_bay_state/

It is really sad to read the comments by law enforcement officials on their glee that the 2nd Amendment is slowly being destroyed in Mass.( not the way they said it but it is what they mean ).

"Fewer firearms on the street makes life safer for everyone," said Robert F. Crowley, Quincy's police chief. "The average citizen who has a gun 24-7 I don't believe has the experience, knowledge, and training to know when and if they should use a firearm."

They even went so far as to deny a 70 year old man a renewal for his permit just to own a gun because they found out when he was 9 years old he stole a chicken.

I saw that over on The High Road. It's not surprising. MA laws do a great job of discouraging gun ownership. As for the quote from the Quincy chief, he needs to try living outside of MA, where citizens may know as much if not more than the police.

There. Fixed it for ya!

The Quincy chief is an elitist moron who himself probably couldn't pass a range qualification. Official distrust of armed citizens is a staple in the northeast. I thank Gd we live here where Metro PD often tells citizens "we can't be here 24/7 to protect you. You need to get a gun and some training how to use it."

Rabbi, That's good, but I'm guessing those must be rank and file officers. I know Chief Serpas has opposed loosening restrictions. (He's testified against restaurant carry in the past.)

I think I can say with accuracy that Chief Serpas does not represent the average officer. I think I can also say his days as chief are numbered.

Translation:

Our streets are safer because the educated public are not qualified enough operate a firearm to defend themselves from uneducated thugs with said firearms. This is despite the high ratio of gun owners who travel to the range compared to thugs who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Also cop who celobrate the reduction in gun ownership seem to forget the criminal element don't register their guns and that is who is really made safer. Or is that who those police are protecting?

I have always found it odd that many of the big and most respected gun makers reside in states and near areas with restricting gun laws. Surely they are there because it is more profitable.

When most of those companies started those were pro-gun states and the fine art of gun making was well respected. Well, I personally think that the neighborhood has gone to hades and they need to move friendly territory. But then there is all the moving cost for all that expensive manufacturing equipment, which of course is why they have not moved yet. :P
