Hello,

I just came across your site today due to researching the carry laws in TN. My wife and I will be traveling to Chattanooga on June 1st and I would like to be aware of what my limitations are as far as where I am allowed by TN state law to carry. I have a Georgia Firearms License and TN recognizes it as one of its own according to what I have found (reciprocity).

From what I can gather, government facilities are offlimits as well as parks, businesses that serve alcohol and any other place that forbids it with a properly posted sign. As long as the hotel where we are staying does not have a policy against firearms and does not have that clearly posted, then I am good. Is this pretty much the general idea?

BTW, I currently own only two firearms. I purchased a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm back in September and I now have a Para 1911 LTC .45 that I carry with me most of the time.

Any guidance that you can give me as far as things to do in Chattanooga while we are there or places to avoid that are not "gun friendly" I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jonathan

I don't know much about specific places in Chattanooga but, barring a veto from our Governor, June 1 will be a great day to carry a weapon in this State. On that day the law allowing handguns to be brought into places that serve alcohol is set to go into effect. So if you go to lunch or dinner at a local restaurant, unless it's properly posted, you'll be able to legally carry as long as you're not consuming alcohol.

Welcome! Glad that you found us and I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers to your questions. As Patrick pointed out, June 1st promises to be a great day to have a carry permit recognized by the state of Tennessee. :)

Thank you for your replies. Does this new legislature effect carry in parks?
