What to Buy

Ok, this could go in any of several forums, so I chose the first one. Anyway, I just got a HUGE tax refund and some other money today and so, like any other good, red blooded american gun owner am looking to spend some of it on firearms. Also, I close on my first house on Tuesday, so I HAVE to buy myself a housewarming present.......right?

Anyway, I'm looking at spending about a grand on something or somethings.....

Top considerations are...

1.)A Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 44 magnum (always regretted getting rid of my only other handgun hunting capable weapon)

2.) Cetme with wood stocks and stainless steel receiver.

3.) A whole bunch of used Smith handguns i.e. 5943, 4046 etc...

4.) A s***load of ammo, i.e. 308 gold medal, 338 lapua etc.

5.) An S&W 1911 for my wife (she's fallen in love with the damned thing, yet I can't GIVE her my Springfield 1911 loaded)

6.) a colt python 6"

What the hell am I to do????? I need help:D

First of all, try to quite letting our new Socialist Republic of United States manage so much of your money for you all year long! :-)

Sounds like you must have your carry guns in order if you're considering big Rugers and 6" Pythons. A nice 1911 is always a welcome addition to the collection. I prefer classic Smith revolvers over Colt, but a Python is a great collector piece and shooter.

If you have extra cash you just want to blow on something really cool and different, what about a big X frame 500 Magnum!!! My son is wanting one of those strange creations, and we don't even hunt!

Other possibilities: nothing like the sexy feel of a Colt SAA or clone. A pistol caliber lever gun is something very easy to fall in love with. Home defense shotguns are useful, plus lots of fun to shoot.

You could just send the money to me, and I'll surprise you!

I heartily agree; every gun lover owes it to theirselves to own at least on Colt Single Action Army (or U S Firearms SAA). They are the greatest handgun ever made. An old N-Frame Smith Model 27 is also great!!

Well, I generally get a good return because of the military. I was overseas for half of last year and my wife was on active duty until October. Also, I get to write off all of my mileage because I am a reservist now. I live in Memphis, drill in New Orleans and travel all over the south to other units teaching shooting and combat to various units. Last year I got to write off almost 60 cents a mile. Also, any gear I or my wife buys gets written off too. So my totla military write offs were something like $15k.

As to guns, I have all the carry guns I need, and then some. Hell, I have a 45 gun capacity safe that is stuffed full and overflowing, so now I'm looking for more "play" guns. My wife also has all the guns she needs, but like I said has taken a fancy to the S&W 1911. I'm trying to do this on the down low (without her knowing how much I spend) but, she would forgive me if it was for her.

I appreciate all of the responses, but hell, I'm still torn. Went to the gun range/dealer today, and they can't get an S&W 1911 in now to save thier lives. That leaves Gunbroker. The only reason I can "justify" to myself not buying Kimber (yes my wife's name is Kimber) a 1911 is she said she wants to buy a new couch for the new house.

What's a guy to do. My personal top two are the cetme and the ruger hunter. But Range USA does have a NICE python in their case for $950.

As to the Ruger, I have two regrets. Not only did I sell my S&W 629 a few years ago, I also passed up on a STUPID good deal on a Ruger Hunter just a few months ago.

My wife and I share the same birthday, although she is five years older, but that is an idea. Our anniversary is the same day as my marine corps anniversary(so I'd never be able to forget it) sooooooooooo maybe she'll get a 1911 for our anniversary.. SEMPER FI......uuuuhhh I mean I loved you honey...yeah...that's the ticket....

Tell me where this shop is at if you dont buy it.

Range USA is a shooting range/gun shop in a Memphis suburb called Bartlett. 901-213-4774. I've drooled, I mean over this 6" Python for a couple of weeks over there. It looks damned good, but the action.....oohhhhh the action........makes you want to:tough: after you dry fire it.

Please buy it out from under me. If I were to buy it, I might shoot it once or twice a year, otherwise it would sit in the safe in the secure knowledge that it was mine. However, If I were to buy a more "sensible" gun, like the Ruger, at least it would get used a few times a year during deer season, since I now have an awesome place in Mississippi that I can actually handgun hunt. Hell, I shot three deer this year under 75 yards, and passed on another half dozen well within that range.

You got a good spot for handgun hunting and you don't have a handgun for the job? What are thinking, lol. Get your priorities in order

With that said, A 629 is pretty nice. I like the double action ruger's as well. Although you can't go wrong with a blackhawk. I have the .45lc/acp conversion. You could get one of those equipped with a 2x simmons for $650 in the door, probably, and have some beans left over.

You could hunt with that python. .357 is a little light (imo), but with a heavy bullet it should do ok on whitetail at least.

You got a good problem to have!

If your going for play things that may not be a round much longer get the CETME and lots of ammo! All the others will still be here for next years return.

I had both a Polytech M-14 and a Springfield M1a super match a few yearts ago. Got rid of both when I was stationed in California and couldn't take them with me. If I were to get another M-14, it would HAVE to be another super match!!!!! That was an honest 1/2 MOA gun. I want the CETME because I don't want to fork out that much for the super match and I want a 308 battle rifle to shoot cheap ammo out of, for fun.

Gotta love being a weekend warrior. I do love it, but damned, I often find myself questioning whether it is more demanding than when I was active duty.

Didn't realize you were military! Well, all I can say is, if your wife's name is Kimber, at some point I don't see any way you could avoid buying Kimber a Kimber! Too many opportunities for her to show off her gun with her name on it! :-)

I have a nephew gun enthusiast who named his son Colt when he was born 12 years ago. I think his dad has bought him a Colt SAA .22, at least. I bought him a Colt sheath knife when he was born, as well as a Colt belt buckle.

Just think of the tie-ins you could be taking advantage of. Kimber also makes some really nice rifles. You could claim that you're buying all these Kimbers for your wife, or that you just have a really hard time not buying anything with your sweet wife's name on it! Come on, man - be smart about this! :-)
