I am visiting your state for the first time.

I will start off with a little about myself. I am currently serving in the US Army. I am visiting your state to attend an Army school in Smyrna. While driving back from a round of golf tonight I ran into a young woman in Smyrna OCing a G26. I am a LTCF holder from Pa, and I OC most of the time at home. I introduced myself and we talked for a short time, she was very nice.(much like everyone else I have met here) I asked her a few questions about obtaining a Tn LTCF? (CCWP, CHL etc??? sorry I am not certain of your terminology) She was unsure of a few answers and suggested I check the internet... So here I am asking the questions:

1) Does Tn issue Non-Resident LTCF?

2) Will my military training count as an approved safety course for the purpose of obtaining this license?

3) Do I have to apply in person or can I do it through the mail.

I have checked the net and found conflicting information on these 3 questions. I can not open .pdf files on this computer which is why I can not seem to get these answers on my own.

Thank you

Welcome :P

1) Only to people who live out of state that work 30+ hours a week for 6 consecutive months in TN. Also only to those people whose state of residence doesn't have a written reciprocity agreement with TN. (Pennsylvania and TN have a written agreement)

So I'm guessing with that answer, the other two questions are moot. But just in case you were to move here.

2) Yes, If you can show you have had specific pistol training.

3) First time applications have to be in person, Renewals can be done by mail.

Thanks for your help. I guess I do not qualify for a HCP since I don't travel here all that much. I just thought it would be nice to have, since I would gain 10 states in addition to my Pa LTCF.

Not sure if you would gain anything by getting a Florida permit, but you can get a Florida non-resident permit by mail.

Edited to add: Just looked and it appears that you can get 8 more states with a Florida permit if all you have is a PA permit.

Welcome to our fair State! I would echo the OP who stated the reciprocity agreements, but also encourage you to contact the TN Dept of Safety, after looking on the web site.

Again, enjoy your stay here (I looked for this TN forum after finding the PA forum :-)).

Thanks for the help and the invite to visit here anytime. I am enjoying my stay here.

I got out to On Target in Murfreesboro this afternoon and did a little shooting. The staff there was very helpful and ammo prices were great. The .45 ACP was $17 and .357SIG was $16.26.

Which Walmarts did you contact? I usually get ammo at the Bethlehem store or Easton store. Bethlehem Walmart doesn't stock very much but they always seem to have what I am looking for. The Easton store is better stocked but 20-30 minute drive from Allentown.

Which caliber are you looking for? Cabellas in Hamburg (20 mins away) is usually well stocked with my military discount prices are about the same as Walmart.

I went to lancaster, easton, reading and allentown

If I rember correctly all of them were loaded with shotgun shells .410 included just no pistol ammo.

I looked at about 15 projects through Ohio and PA. and really dont remember even seeing the locking show cases that normally house the pistol ammo.

I asked a customer that was buying shotgun shells if any of the Walmarts in PA. sell Handgun ammo,he looked kinda confused and said I dont know.

Easton does sell ammo, you have to go to the guns counter and ask for it... it is underneath the gun cabinet... Bethlehem has it behind the counter, you have to ask them specifically for it. Palmyra has a large case for all rifle/pistol ammo but it has been very empty for a very long time now...as soon as they get ammo it goes very quickly... usually to my stash but it goes quick.
